WotC's Dungeons & Dragons is NOT worth it.

I run a 5th edition game, and I've run many. If there is one thing I as a Game Master can say, it's that WotC's Dungeons & Dragon's is not worth it. Yes it's very accessible, but only to an extent; combat is slow and very much a slog, the game is over consumerized, and the corporate entity that runs it doesn't truly care about the players, just the profit. It's really all I can say, many people have said what I mean to say better. If you're looking to start, I would discourage starting at 5E, instead start with something that looks cool, learn the rules and grow from there. It's main benefit of it being easy to find a group to play with has faded in recent years with the DM drought. Even the thing that got it so popular, Critical Role is moving on from it to different systems.
