Cause can I be so for real? I HATE how people used Rhaenys' reaction to Corlis' bastards as a new way to "dunk" on Catelyn cause it's like "do you understand the difference in both culture and position that both women are in?"
Like think about it. Rhaenys--Queen that never was or not--is still royalty. Not just any royalty but a royalty that already has "weird" customs according to most Westerosi, right? Whereas normally there would be a stigma against the wife for this, what exactly can be done to Rhaenys' reputation outside of what ppl already do to her????? Nothing. Like people already talk shit about her. I LOVE that she didn't blame his sons and focused on blaming him but she can afford do that. Like in the movie Parasite where they say something along the lines of "rich ppl can afford to be nice" (nice not kind because thats a very important distinction for everyday life).
Catelyn is NOT royalty. She's a noble, yes. But you have to understand what keeps the Tullys afloat. She comes from the Riverlands, a place where promises need to be upheld to the upmost priority because all the Riverland nobles got is their word. That's why the Tullys biggest export is marriage. The only other family that can out match that level of honoring oaths are the Starks.
Catelyn didn't love Ned but she swore to honor him and vice versa so in her mind, you have this guy from a family that's supposed to be even better than yours at honoring oaths than yours and then you find out that he fathered a kid while married to you. Not only that but he brought the kid home and EVERYONE is constantly pointing out that this is unexpected from him.
In a society that both normalizes noble men having bastards but also blames their wives for "not being enough" this is a great insult to her, her family, her people and their customs. Even more so, Jon Snow is a constant visual reminder that her husband did not honor her. I'm not agreeing with how she treated Jon but you have to understand the layers of why she's treating him that way. In the same way you understand the layers of why Ned does what he does, you have to do so for ALL OF THE CHARACTERS even if you don't like their choices.
The biggest difference in both Rhaenys and Catelyn is their level of power. The best you're going to get to do to Rhaenys is talk about her behind her back because doing so to her face might get a whole of dragon riders to run up and that's not a risk anyone is willing to make.
The stark difference in their responses is purely power.
