AUTISM TIME!!!
I'm gonna rank every JoJo from JJBA here, my opinion is 100% objectively correct with no room for error or criticism /j
SPOILERS FOR JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE!!!
Uhhhh this isn't a power tier list (we all know who the most powerful JoJo is) but it's just how much I like them! Also a JoJo is specifically the main character of a part so Joestars like Lisa Lisa, Dragona, and George Joestar will not be counted here as they are not JoJos. I'm also not going to be ranking Jodio because part 9 is not finished yet.
- Joseph
- Jolyne
- Giorno
- Jotaro
- Johnny
- Josuke (Part 4)
- Josuke (Part 8)
- Jonathan
JOSEPH JOESTAR!!!! ジョセフ・ジョースター (Part 2, 3, & 4)
I LOVE Joseph Joestar!!! He's the 2nd least powerful JoJo but his personality throughout each of the parts that he's in is fantastic!!! I mean there's a reason he's the most fun JoJo. Joseph doesn't care about honor like his grandpa, he'll happily use a literal TOMMY GUN to shoot Straizo and just straight up run away from a fight. He also uses tactics his grandpa wouldn't use like literally playing dead with an Ancient aztec demigod standing right behind him. He has an amazing character arc where he goes from being this arrogant, brave but misguided brat to a skilled an (mainly) disciplined warrior. Also he beats up a racist so that's epic.
Part 3 Joseph is one of my favorite characters ever, yes he's not this part's JoJo but he is the de facto leader of the Stardust Crusaders. He's also got the weakest stand but the adventure literally couldn't have happened without it because it shows them where DIO is. He's also still got the same cunning as he did back in part 2 as displayed in the D'Arby the Elder fight in which he almost gets one over on D'Arby by using his cotton ball trick. Not to mention that his design is iconic and his voice lines are too. I literally have him yelling "OH NO" as my notification sound on my phone.
Part 4 Joseph is kind of sad to see, it's hard to tell if he actually is senile or is pretending to be senile (I think he actually is senile with moments of lucidity). Anyways this is definitely my favorite arc for him even if his character is a shell of the man he used to be. Him actually trying to be there for Josuke and then taking on Shizuka Joestar as like a redo is so cool. Him almost killing himself trying to save her is exactly the kind of thing Joseph would do when he was younger, proving that even if he's old, he can still be the hero he once was.
JOLYNE CUJOH!!! 空条 徐倫 (Part 6)
Jolyne was only in one part but she definitely earned the number 2 spot in that short amount of time. Jolyne was the first ever female JJBA protagonist in an era where female shonen protagonists were few and far between. Araki actually intended to make Giorno a woman in part 5 but his editors thought it would hurt the series, that no one would care about a female shonen protagonist. Araki knew that's exactly why they needed one. Part 6 is one of my favorite parts ever, Jolyne is just such a far departure from Jonathan Joestar and I love it so much. She definitely has one of the most unique stands of any character with Stone Free. Her dynamic with Ermes and FF is amazing and I loved every bit of watching Stone Ocean. She faced one of the biggest threats in JoJo's HISTORY and even though she died during the fight, her actions directly lead to Emporio's victory over Pucci.
GIORNO GIOVANNA ジョルノ・ジョバァーナ (Part 5)
Giorno is the strongest JoJo objectively. Even aside from that, Giorno's part is the best animated part of JoJo's so far. He's extremely smart, strong, and tough. Without Giorno's help Bruno's Gang would've never won against the boss, they also probably would've never even attacked the boss in the first place meaning that Trish would've probably died. He has pure intentions the entire time, his focus being to get the mafia to stop selling drugs to kids. Not to mention his design is one of my absolute favorites and is iconic. I also have a Giorno plush :3 that my friend got me from the fair! Not to even mention his stand is the strongest in JoJo's, Gold Experience: Requiem. GBR has the ability to literally nullify a person's actions, the only stand I think could possibly even beat that would be Wonder of U (due to calamity being a natural flow rather than anyone's direct action).
Jotaro Kujo 空条 承太郎 (Part 3, 4, 5, & 6)
I can understand why he is everybody's favorite JoJo and I don't personally dislike him. He's kind of an asshole though, like I get he's supposed to be a moody teenager and that's why he's awful to his mom but really? That's our protagonist? At least Jolyne had a good reason for hating her dad. As awful as his words are to his mom though it is very clear that Jotaro does love her, otherwise he wouldn't have traveled literal continents to go save her. I also feel like Star Platinum is just kind of a generic stand, like everyone thinks of Star Platinum anytime they think of a stand (look at the JJBA easter egg in Henry Stickman) not to mention Star Platinum is just The World. Star Platinum is literally just the world, it has the same abilities as The World including Star Platinum: The World. He's also just so popular that it's kind of ridiculous, everyone likes him so it's kind of annoying seeing him and his part represent JJBA as a whole when there are better JoJos and better parts to be showing.
I prefer older Jotaro to part 3 Jotaro. Part 4 Jotaro is basically just Josuke's mentor and plays the role his grandpa did in part 3, leading the Morioh Crusaders. His design is just so much better, Jotaro in white is just so much more stylish. With all of the teenage angst gone he is just such a better hero in part 4. Him also just being friends with Koichi is so cool! The only thing I don't like about Jotaro in part 4 is him getting his ass beat by a literal sentient rat.
Part 5 Jotaro isn't really all that special and only appears for a little bit. His design is still pretty similar to his part 4 design which makes sense since they're so close. The only thing he really does is send Koichi to Italy to find Giorno.
THE BEST VERSION OF JOTARO! First of all, he has his best design in this part. Not to mention the inversion of the damsel in distress trope. Jotaro is the damsel, and his daughter has to save him. Bro literally gets disconnected from life when Pucci takes his stand and memory disk. Not to mention how pivotal those disks are to the plot, like when Pucci finds the Green Baby (which is an OP stand user btw) and Jolyne tries to stop him. Pucci literally threatens Jolyne with her dad's life as he places Jotaro's memory disk into a dying Anasui (which would've caused the disk to be lost with Anasui). When he comes back he takes on this protector role and its so sad to see him realize that he, for once, isn't powerful enough to win. His death is one of the most impactful in the series for me, I thought he was unkillable but Araki leaves no prisoners!
Johnny Joestar ジョニィ・ジョースター (Part 7 & 8)
Johnny Joestar is in the best part of SBR but to be honest I'm not a huge fan of him but that might just be because of how big of a Gyro Zeppeli fan I am. He is completely overshadowed by Gyro in this part by every measure. He does have something that sets him apart though, one of the most powerful stands. At first Johnny didn't even have a stand, but then Gyro teaches him about the spin (this universe's Hamon) and Johnny becomes able to spin his fingernails. That manifests itself as a stand called Tusk which has an act system similarly to Koichi's Echoes. I think my favorite thing about Johnny Joestar just is his dynamic with Gyro Zeppeli. They are so funny together, like when Johnny tells Gyro that he has a BUG BITE KINK??? What???? Anyways, Johnny's stand literally has the ability to utilize the golden ratio of the spin to make someone tied to a place forever, in all universes. This is exactly what he does to Valentine in one of my favorite Johnny Joestar moments. It almost seems like Johnny is going to let President Valentine go, but then he FUCKS HIM UPPPP!!!
So I'm probably gonna have a lot of people yell at me saying "Johnny isn't in part 8, this takes place before part 8" but if I'm gonna have part 5 Jotaro on here, part 8 Johnny needs to be here too. Part 8 Johnny doesn't have a lot to go off of but he is pivotal to the story and the explanation of equivalent exchange. His story is told as a myth, one day his wife Rina Higashikata gets sick with a mysterious illness and Johnny decides to take her to her hometown in Morioh, Japan to spend her last few days. He steals the Holy Corpse (the corpse of Jesus from part 7) to try to heal her but the disease transfers to his son. Johnny then transfers the misfortune onto himself, and he dies. This is the power of equivalent exchange.
Josuke Higashikata 東方 仗助 (Part 4)
Josuke has one of my least favorite designs in the entire series. There's a reason why he has that stupid hair but jeez, it really is stupid. I know this is a really unpopular opinion ranking him this low but I just never really connected with Josuke as much as I did with the other wacky characters of Morioh. One moment I really do like from Josuke is the Rohan Kishibe fight, where Rohan insults his hair and he literally goes into a blind rage. Rohan's power works only if the person can see so in his blind rage, Josuke is completely immune to it. Josuke's Crazy Diamond is pretty powerful but it really feels like a rehash of Star Platinum if you take away his healing powers. Overall, I just kind of like everybody's else in Morioh over Josuke, and I definitely remember them more than I do Josuke.
Josuke Higashikata 東方 定助 (Part 8)
Now that I think about it, I might actually put this Josuke higher in a future list. I really do like Josuke (although his design takes some time to grow on you). Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way though, no he is NOT the same character from part 8 (if you didn't know that already you probably shouldn't be reading all of these spoilers lol). Josuke is an amalgamation of Josefumi Kujo (this universe's Jotaro) and this universe's Yoshikage Kira. The entirety of Josuke's journey is one of finding himself and I love how his arc ends. It begins with him trying to figure out who he is, but over time he realizes that he should be trying to create a new life for himself. That Josuke is his own person regardless of who he used to be, he is not Josefumi, he is not Kira, he is Josuke. That is my favorite part about this character, his development is absolutely amazing and I love how it manifests in Soft & Wet: Go Beyond. Josuke isn't meant to be in THIS world and so his attacks are able to blink out of existence and pass through barriers, then blink back into existence. The issue for me is how long his part is and the ending, which was not really as good as the build up suggested. Jobin should've been the villain.
Jonathan Joestar ジョナサン・ジョースター (Part 1)
Jonathan is the weakest JoJo, has the least personality, and the least character development. (Also note: I will NOT be covering Jonathan's body from part 3, I see it more as a plot device and an extension of DIO) To be clear, I don't hate this character, I understand why he has to exist and that Araki was learning how to write while making him but GOD he is so boring. He's extremely one note, he is a brave gentleman and that never changes. He's pretty smart and cunning but he is just incredibly boring. Not to mention his art is probably my least favorite in the entire series (again, I know it's Araki just starting out but GOD you can tell he was inspired by Fist of the North Star). Not to mention his voice acting in the dub, like I'm already a person who prefers subs to dubs but Jonathan's dub is just so annoying. I'm glad part 1 is as short as it is just because we get to move on to other JoJos, and even then him and his awful writing have stopped many people from watching JoJo's. It stopped me when I first started watching it, part 1 is soooo boring.
NOTE: KIRA DOES NOT CONDONE PART SKIPPING!
