Hey there gang, gonna just pour info about my tournament run at my Pokemon TCG local I had earlier because DAMN it went well!
I went into it to have a laugh for the most part, bringing a deck that is generally regarded as a meme, not serious, terrible, inconsistent...just, truly horrendous, LOLOLOL
What's that deck, I hear you ask? Even though you didn't ask at all? HYDRAPPLE EX! A goofy deck where I attach ungodly amounts of energy and swing for stupid amounts of damage with a MURDEROUS APPLE.
ESPECIALLY since people around me were playing meta decks like Terapagos/Dusknoir and Miraidon...though two of them were playing goofy decks like Great Tusk Mill and Tatsugiri ex??? LOL
I went against three of the decks mentioned, being Terapagos, Tatsugiri and Great Tusk, so really it was only fair that a goofy deck face off against equally goofy decks lol
First round was against Terapagos, which surprisingly was a complete sweep for me! Their luck was horrendous, and coming from someone who plays Terapagos...good lord they made SO MANY MISPLAYS ARGHHHH!!!! It was so painful to watch, they could have folded me like an omelette and ate me for breakfast on so many occasions but they underestimated the funny apple and let me demolish them XD
2-0, first match won!
Next was against Tatsugiri, a deck which revolves around cheating out a bunch of stage 2 Pokemon without needing to evolve them, because y'know, silly gaming I guess XD
However, it's SUPER reliant on luck, so much so that it runs CRISPIN of all cards to try and accelerate energy which is never a good sign. However, his luck was much, MUCH better than mine, so he was able to easily snipe all my Applins before they had a chance to evolve DX
THANKFULLY, the next two rounds were a clean sweep from me, the second game was rough due to me not being able to get a single Applin off of my Bug Catching Sets, much to my opponent's joy, I've known him for 9 years and I've never heard him laugh so hard...serves him right though, because his luck was even more rotten than mine, as his Cinnabar Lure with Tatsugiri only found him a bunch of energy and 2 Dusknoirs, not being able to bench a single damn thing! And finally, game three was a win for me, because I set up much faster than he could, thus demolishing any hope at setting up a board, HA!
2-1, second match won!
The final round was against Great Tusk Mill, which is generally considered to be...bad. Well, not BAD bad, as Control decks are always a nightmare to fight, but it's not as good as Snorlax Stall. Honestly, as interesting as this match ended up being despite this, there is so much to say about it that it's hard to type it all, especially because on the surface it was a lot of drawing cards and passing turn, but it went deeper, as I was always thinking five turns ahead! The first game I lost due to bad luck, leading to a slow loss in which I tried to break the lockdown on me but couldn't, the second was a win for me thanks to patience and thinking for the long-term...aaaaand the third game was a tie, leaving the record as 1-1-1 for each of us in that match, making it a tie.
Overall, I was happy about today! If anyone here is a Pokemon TCG fan, I strongly recommend playing Hydrapple! Maybe not in a cup or a challenge, but for fun in casuals! Even just on TCG Live, honestly I wouldn't recommend building it irl, I'm just goofy :p
And if you AREN'T a Pokemon TCG fan...JOIN US, YOU'VE READ THIS FAR ALREADY AND PROBABLY LOOKED UP A FEW CARDS ALONG THE WAY!!! Live is completely free (albeit a buggy mess), and if you just wanna dip your toes in the water, try Pocket!
And if you love it, look for a local scene, head to your local card shop, look for weekly tournaments! Pokemon is MUCH cheaper to get into than something like Yugioh, which while fun, OH MY GOD THOSE CARDS ARE EXPENSIVE AND I HATE HOW I CAN WAKE UP TO A RANDOM BANLIST THAT MAKES MY DECK BAD AUUUUUUUUUUUUGH!!
Charizard ex just got a league battle deck too, a relatively cheap, competitive-ready Charizard ex deck you can buy online or at your local store, it's a no brainer easy deck that WON A REGIONAL TOURNAMENT WITH 1.8K PLAYERS LATELY. Granted, it's not OPTIMAL, but you can upgrade it pretty easily!
Ramble over, thank you for reading, I'm gonna go play some meme decks online now LOLOLOLOLOL
Hope you all have a beautiful day, Spaceheyers :3
