why i think the rise of "modeltok" is destroying teenage girls' self esteem

hii!! so this is my first entry even tho its kindof a strong topic but smth ive been wanting to talk abt for a long time! Little warning b4 u read this, im not english so i might conjugate some verbs wrongly or js make spelling mistakes :,,) anywho lets beginnnn !!!

I DONT HAVE ANYTHING AGAINST MODELS OR GIRLS WHO LIKE MODELLING!!**

also when im talking abt modeltok, i most definitely dont mean models sharing their experience online, but people idolising them and setting unhinged beauty standards.

so personally i have no connection w modelling or anything similar, in fact i never really cared about it, only sometimes reading about it in magazines. recently ive seen it be popularized by many tiktok users (also with the recent victoria secrets show). I havent been engaging with such content that much but ive seen a repetitive pattern which contains calling normal characteristics "unnatural" and "gross" (for ex. ive seen one saying that someone being over 50kg is overweight, which is RIDICULOUS). The modelling world has always set extreme standards, but now with other teenagers repeating similar things online it just got more normalised. Ive seen many posts basically "promoting" an0rexia which btw is crazy?? and it just keeps getting worse.

The amount of hate people with a slightly bigger complex get is disgusting, but what shocks me the most is not only grown men commenting this but also teenage girls. With the amount of talk there has been about accepting everyone as they are it seems obscene that everyone just decided to switch up on it as it started trending. Stating this online, while being on your phone might seem silly, but this has been happening irl too. Overly thin people have been getting praised which just worsens things ((as in actual women suffering from extreme eds)). Now i do like to support 'overweight' people on their weight-loss journeys for a HEALTHY weight, yet this is anything BUT healthy.

With puberty everyone generally gets more muscle mass, allowing the body to gain more weight, an obviously natural reaction with a persons growth, but with more teens hopping online (a place where honestly these arguments arent talked as much as i wish they were) this seems to be seen as "weird", "un-normal" and "sick". Those kids (which are also my peers) then start developing unhealthy habits to keep track of the beauty standard and destroying their physical and mental health bit by bit. They start getting new deranged insecurities ruining their confidence and locking themselves. I am a victim of bullying myself for being "different" mentally which really did scar me deep inside, so i know how many of them feel. i will forever be ready for the downfall of the toxic side of modeltok.

dont b scared to share your thoughts in the comments !!!

first of all english is my main language and I have never even heard of the word conjugate (┬┬﹏┬┬) (your english is rlly good!!) I completely agree, I've seen people say being 5'4 and weighing 50kg isn't okay which is absolutely wild. heavy on the "promoting" eds too, sometimes it comes from people seeking compliments but it does potentially make viewers feel bad abt themselves. i do hope anyone affected by this content strays away from it and heals <3 thank u for sharing your perspective ><!!
