mini analysis of strangers from hell

IF YOUVE NEVER WATCHED STF YOU WILL NOT GET THIS (you should watch it)

I think the whole story was mainly one about how anyone can become dangerous. It's even mentioned a few times like when Officer So said that "you're never crazy, its what's around you that makes you crazy." But, it is represented unreliably, through Jungwoo's character.

It's unreliable in the way they make it seem like Jungwoo was turned insane, but throughout the plot Jungwoo was already on the path of destruction; his very uncontrollable anger, which is revealed to have always been a problem (by the military scenes) and his desire to commit acts of violence (even at the very start of Eden, when nothing was too weird yet). Where it starts to blur with how the people around him affected him starts when he is unable to tell reality from imagination (remembering things wrong, seeing apparitions, etc)

Here's a list of how each character affected his psyche:

  1. Jieun - dismissed his emotions too easily, didn't understand him, wanted to be 'normal' rather than accepting his situation (making him bottle his emotions, telling him he's paranoid, etc)
  2. Jaeho - claimed he cared for Jungwoo only to continuosly bring up how he's better than him, clearly had intentions with HIS girlfriend, not helpful at work (making him start to fixate on his imagination)
  3. Byeongmin - inferiority complex taken out on Jungwoo, not being helpful at work yet still blaming him for incompetence, perverted (making him start to think that some people deserved to die)
  4. Eden residents - all of them were annoying to Jungwoo, killed other people without any motives (also ultimately making him feel justified in killing them)
  5. Officer So - person of the law who was unable to truly help, it wasn't her fault, but (making him believe he had no other option that to give into his urges)

And most importantly Moonjo. Moonjo 'creates' masterpieces, and its often seen by the audience as the reason why Jungwoo ended up killing people. But, we know he doesn't just choose random people to turn crazy. He takes someone who has potential, that's why Jungwoo was targetted, because of his clarity.
