If you haven't figured it out yet, I commonly turn my anger to the page instead of causing a scene. Sorry if I rant too much.
I've been living the desert for four years. Minimal social contact. A retreat after hard times. A place to relax, write, maybe be inspired by something for once.
Covid didn't even affect my life much. That's how minimal this place is. I remember when I was a kid, I would angrily tell my dad in a calm voice, "One day I'll move to the desert so I don't have to deal with anything ever again."
My plan would have worked out, had it not been for this pesky internet. I've recovered from long term uses of heroin and meth before, but the internet is hard to break.
So I'm here. What are we supposed to do with our lives if we can't enjoy them?
For me, it's been a lot of history. Learning history feels like the most important thing right now in this tumultuous time. Especially now with new versions of history coming in, which really brings things to debate. And I don't know which side is true.
I'm fascinated by this because I was raised in a deep religious state of mind. I was almost completely sheltered from the world. Once I left home, I learned that the real world is way different and everything I knew about history was probably wrong. I was told not to research outside of the Bible. Never learn about religions. Just believe. Just have faith. And watch out for those demons.
I recently learned that Cinco de Mayo is not the Mexican Independence Day.
If you grew up believing that because you remember learning it in school, it'll make you question what else you were taught wrong too.
Now here's the problem I can't see a way to solve. If the history is written by the winners, which losers stories are true?
It's a serious question. I like to think about the all the different religions slaughtered by the bigger ones. Everyone had their own little sects. Freedom of thought for whoever was the first to believe in something, mind control to everyone who came afterward. Or guidance, take your pick.
I only know that true or not, it became used for control, and that's history that cannot be debated.
