Christmas Album Advent Calendar: Album and Single 4/26

I'm already starting to fear I'm gonna end up running out of stuff to cover when it comes to the singles but we'll see how it goes.

A Dreamers Christmas

John Zorn

You may be asking why the hell did I review some rather regular instrumental Christmas album. Well if you don't know who John Zorn is, this is probably the most out-of-place release in his entire catalogue, John Zorn is known for being an especially experimental and avant-garde jazz and progressive rock musician, he's also Jewish which makes it even more out there that he made a very regular instrumental jazz-rock christmas album in 2011. The most tame release to ever have his name on it, and honestly I quite enjoy it. It's a really nice relaxing record that does have some hints throughout of his usual nature, especially on the second half of the album with tracks like Let It Snow! Let It Snow! and the beginning of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town but I think those points are still few and fair between, so that people who don't find that sort of experimentation enjoyable, they'd still enjoy this album. I'm definitely gonna find myself putting this on after today. It even includes a final track of Mike Patton doing a genuine reading of The Christmas Song, ain't that cute.

Merry Christmas, Kiss My Ass

All Time Low

I know this song wasn't technically ever released as a single, but it has its own music video so it counts. I remember this song being an absolute favorite of mine when I was 13, I might revisit more of those middle school Christmas tunes I listened to while on the bus throughout this list. All Time Low is what I believe to be the most stereotypical pop punk band and that's beautiful. I can't really say much about this song, It's an angsty breakup song with a Christmas theming, but sometimes you don't need more than that.

6.5/10
