This year's Spotify wrapped wasn't as great as it normally is. First, the hype was built up too long. I get a day or two difference, but it went back to the date it first started in 2020. Spotify kept teasing it on tiktok and other platforms, and it went on too long. They just said "coming soon" and next to nothing else. I've seen TikTok comments saying they don't even want it anymore because it was dragged out too long.
For the actual wrapped, it was mediocre at best. It had the top 5 songs and artists, but my problem comes with the genres. Instead of doing the top genres like it usually did, it instead did genres by months. I'm going to use mine as an example
February - atmospheric black metal (cradle of filth, burzum, nachtmystium). The only burzum song I listen to is dunkelheit, so idk why it thinks I'm a mega fan. Cof and nachtmystium aren't really that atmospheric so idk what Spotify thought was happening.
March - goth rock out metal(??) (ghost, cradle of filth, Rob zombie) again, I only know a few Rob zombie songs. The only band here I would say is gothic metal is cof. I just won't comment on ghost being here bc I'm not bringing up the is it metal argument. I just don't think it would be gothic metal.
June - Mall goth football nu metal (slipknot, soad, Korn) the bands are accurate, but WTF is Mall goth football nu metal!?!? Imagine going up to someone asking what their fav genre wise and they say this bs ๐ญ
And that's all for the genres. So not only did it completely skip over July - November, but it has the wild names. Goth rock out metal?? Ik pov indie was it's own thing, but this is just absurd. Also, these genres sound completely AI generated. Some poor fellow got this as a genreย
Anyway that's all for now but please Spotify, put effort in next year ๐๐
