2000s Nostalgia with Friendster

I accidentally discovered Spacehey last week. It made me remember as a teen and young adult in the 2000s. I am from SEA and Friendster was extremely popular in my country in those years. Aside from Friendster, I also had Bebo, Wayn, and Hi5.

Of all the socmed that I had, I loved Friendster the most. Maybe because it was where me and my peers bonded after class hours. We had to go to computer shops just to log in and checked our profiles. It was an avenue for pre-teens, teenagers, and young adult in my community. The issues that we tackled were bound to this certain place.

The platform was pretty basic in the beginning but after a few months (perhaps years), just like, Spacehey, we could also customize our profiles. Each profile was unique, and it reflected the personality of the user. Some were wonderfully crafted, and others were plainly chaotic. My eyes sometimes get strained when the background color was the same as the font colors of the text hahaha. Some profiles also were full of glitters matched with full blasting music. It was really fun time looking at other people's profiles.

I joined Facebook in 2008 because I was into Vampire Wars. Friends, family, relatives, and colleagues shifted from Friendster to FB starting 2010. I became busy with work and with life that I did not explore any other socmed. For how many years of being an FB user, to be honest, I still miss that personalization of a profile that other social media had.

That's why learning about Spacehey makes my heart grow fonder. Maybe because of the nostalgia it brings. I know it will never bring back the memories in perfection but being here is enough.

My first profile pic in Friendster

(I remember my first profile picture was Esther Williams because I was so gaga over Bathing Beauty that time. I'm so glad I found it after all these years.)
