Report Blog Entry
This is kinda a rant and kinda a real question for the mods. How does this page even work? Everything is ranked so randomly it just feels like a lottery.
(pardon my bad writing, im using a mouse)
I originally though it was ranked by age. If your post was newer, it would be ranked higher than an older post with the same amount of engagement, and it just skews from there. I figured it was to prevent old posts from dominating the popular page.
Then, this happened after I posted my PC blog... Why is it lower? There is literally no reason for it to be ranked lower.
More evidence against my original guess. It is clear it is not based on age. However, it also seems to not be based on engagement either?? What the hell is it based on?
This is common amongst ALL blogs, from politics to general blogging, it appears blogs are placed on these lists at random, and allotted a period of time that they can exist on the list. This makes literally zero sense and really shouldn't be a way of blog discovery (especially since it's named TOP BLOGS)

Honestly, it never occurred to me until now that it might be mod-selected...and in terms of free of speech and all that, I'm not sure I like that. Or maybe the algorithm is just random like that. Ce la vie.
I hope it isn't hand-selected because, as you said, the really does stifle any meaningful conversation beyond what the mods deem "worthy"
considering some of the other past controversies surrounding these mods, it wouldn't surprise me.

It's based entirely on the number of views, only with a 15 minute delay. I've tested it. You can actually bounce back and forth between a blog and another page and each time, it counts as a view. This is why the scammer posts make it to the top day one, because they figured it out and just keep doing it.

Saw in one of the top blogs that the blogs that end up at the top mostly depend on the amount of comments, like majorly. Kudos influences it too but comments matter the most
But that doesmt seem to be the case here though, so maybe theres other stuff going on

I feel like the default one that should show first when u click the blogs tab its the more recent ones as they are usually doomed to obscurity
sometimes i look at the top blogs sections and just wonder HOW these are the ones deemed worthy of the front page
SOME OF THESE SUCKK
there are people writing novels and posting great art daily, but they just get nowhere because the 3 lines of code and determine the top blogs just DIDNT feel like promoting it :(((

YEAH THIS... i think that the comments matter more than kudos, especially interacting with others in comments (if i reply to all the comments in my blog it will automatically get higher than if i just let the comments be) and maybe clicks/how many times the blog is viewed??? we cant see that but maybe mods can..?

no ive been wondering the same thing... bc there will be a popular blog at the top with like 50 comments and hundreds of kudos for idk, a week. and then suddenly its gone, even if its still getting engagement. and its not like the op deleted the blog, it just isnt in the top blogs anymore. it just feels completely random and if thats the case then they should rename it "random blogs"
sometimes I feel bad bc like these will be really interesting blogs but they just get evaporated at the will of the mods and its kinda mess up man

every few days i go thru the recent blogs to see if theres been anything interesting. usually there isnt because ppl use spacehey blogs like twitter. but every once in a while theres a hidden gem
