We went to the McAlpine Christmas Tree Farm in Bismark on Sunday to choose our Yule Tree. It was an awesome experience. I only wish we weren't in such a rush, so we could have spent more time there connecting with the environment. But, I'm super happy with the tree we brought home!
There were huge fields of Douglas Firs on each side of the farm house, and they provided a saw for us to cut down the one we wanted. I sawed about halfway through before Ted had to take over and finish the job. 😂
Once we cut her down, they shook out all the loose needles and baled it up for us. Then, we managed to fit the tree in the back of the Element to transport back home.
We didn't have decorations yet, so she was bare for an evening. Then, on Monday night we picked out ornaments, lights, and garland. Ted wanted a multi-color tree, which is something I've never done before. I typically stick to blue/silver or red/gold combos, but I was happy to try something different this year.
In the end, I think it turned out beautiful! And I had such a great time decorating it with Ted. This will definitely be a Yule tradition for us every year - visiting the tree farm, cutting down our tree, and bringing it home to decorate.
This was the first time I've ever had a real tree from a farm. I've mostly always had a plastic tree. The one time I got a real tree, I bought it from the Kroger parking lot and it wasn't very healthy. The one we have now is beautiful and healthy, and I'm loving it!
