humanity, litterature and philosophy

lol so im in class, the subject^^^^^.

a text i have to synthesize is from around 400bc and is talking abt how people used to call epilepsy a "divine ilness" and thought it was an ilness sent by god, or gods whatever their religion was, they just thought it was an ilness sent to humans by a divine being.

where di this myth start though.

the author of this text was anonymous, or unnamed maybe orgotten over time but either way whoever the author was believed that this myth was created by magoi, (priests in Zoroastrianism and other early iranian religions) kathartai, purifiers, basically exorcists, vagabonds, so homeless travelers and also scammers or charletons.

so from what i can conclude/theorize , priests (possibly also witch doctors idk) would lead a nomadic lifestyle going around claiming to be able to 'purify' ppl with this "divine illness" and scam people.

so yeah, ppl though that epilepsie was a 'divine ilness' and from what i have concluded is how the myth was most likely spread.

im definitly not the first person to have thought this tho lol and im not claiming too this was just an interesting piece of new knowledge
