Happy flag day to all my andalusian baddies reading this!!
I think to commemorate this great piece of our history i'll talk about the history behind it <3. Also if i make any mistakes feel free of correcting me, since im not a historian nor a professional, just a passionate andalusian citizen.
Apparently, 4th of december was the day thousands of andalusians protested with their flags claiming their right for autonomy (since Spain is conformed by autonomic regions, not states, with their own ways of self-govern and their own elected political party, so they can have their own educational and health systems / programs, without surpassing the legislation of the constitution). It also commemorates the culture and the identity of the region.
The man who created this flag (and also the hymn, with roots in popular songs that the landworkers sang as they were, well, working) was Blas Infane, the father of andalusian homeland. He was shot bc of his fight for andalusian independence. His flag was approved by unanimous votes in the Ronda Assembly from 1918.
It is called the "arbonaida flag", with origins in the arab-andalusian word "albulaida", which means "my land / my country / my homeland".
What does the flag mean?
The green: hope and islamic roots
The white: peace and a wish for unity
The shield: it represents Hercules between two pilars (representing the strait of Gibraltar, the separation between the peninsula and the island), with two tamed lions, and the inscryption:
" Andalucía por sí, para España y la humanidad (Andalusia by itself, for Spain and humanity)".
It also has a latin inscryption inside the arch of the pilars that reads "Dominator Hercules Fundator (Hercules the domineering and founder)".
This day was proclaimed as such on the 4th of december of the year 2022 by Juanma Moreno, who said "From that day i want to remember the most the unity of the andalusian people and their noncomformity, with that spirit of unity and ambition we are going to proclaim the 4th of december as te day of the andalusian flag"
Today may not be a festive day in our region, but my heart sings its hymn and is celebrating such a memorable moment with all of you reading this. I hope yall found it interesting since its my first blog! kisses <33
"Bienaventurados los que combaten, porque ellos serán redimidos / Blessed be those that fight, since they will be redeemed" - Blas Infante.
