In the honor of new Robert Eggers's Nosferatu coming out in December here are some iconic vampire movies to watch before.
1. Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922) - F. W. Murnau
The original Nosferatu movie. Must watch, classic goth cinema. A bit hard to get through if you are not into silent films but still. Honestly Max Schreck is absolutely horrifying with his bald cap and long fingers. The mimicry of the actors is amazing.
2. Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979) - Werner Herzog
Another iconic German gothic movie. Amazing recreation of the original Nosferatu with its own artistic twist, Herzog is an absolute genius. The lighting and shadows create a chilling atmosphere while mesmerizing you. The movie itself is an intellectual piece with more to say than just a vampire move. The idea conveys the message of death/nature in relation to humanity.
3. Dracula (1931) - Tod Browning
I am in love with Bela Lugosi, no further comment.
4. Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) - Francis Ford Coppola
Peak grotesque-ish Gothic cinema. Literally a celebration of movies as a visual medium. I kinda have a love hate relationship with this movie. Everything is overdramatized and crazy but the visuals are unmatchable (if you like this check out Del Toro's movies). also keanu reeves getting sucked dry by draculas wives so that his hair turned gray was amazing.
5. Byzantium (2012) - Neil Jordan
semi-Period drama with a lot of childhood trauma starring SAORISE RONAN AND CALEB LANDRY JONES. If you like sick looking frail pretty boys and artistic vampire girls you need to watch this.
