Christmas Album Advent Calendar: Album and Single 2/26

The second album and single, because of the fact I'm doing both of these on the same day, and these are the first entries, I decided I wanted to connect the first two albums and singles into some sort of theme together, and I knew just the two I wanted to talk about.

The Christmas Album

I am dreaming of an Experimental Rock Christmas. I couldn't help to connect the first 2 albums and first 2 singles I do into some sort of theme. This album is a tribute album to the classic Phil Spector Christmas album but features incredibly odd, avant-garde and out there artists, you would never believe this was officially put together by Sony Records, featuring artists like noise musician Merzbow, queercore band God Is My Co-Pilot, and post-rock band Gastr Del Sol.
Of course this being the fact, this is one of my favorite Christmas albums (although it isn't saying much due to the fact it's the only Christmas album I've willingly listened to, before this calendar). An amazing oddball compilation of artists. It needs to be heard to be believed, Every song is something you wouldn't expect and would definitely compel most people to tell you to turn that off during Christmas dinner, something as simple as Secret Chiefs 3 mostly taking the sound of a regular Christmas song, but singing in a grotesque voice to turn I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus into sounding like it's some sort of incestuous voyeur tune.
The two stand out tracks on this in my opinion is Merzbow's version of Silent Night and Gastr Del Sol's version of The Bells of St. Mary, but if you are any way into experimental music, you have to listen to this this holiday season.

Happy Xmas (War Is Over)

John Lennon

Of course connecting the first two singles as well, first single being Paul McCartney, second being John Lennon. This song is much more beloved and respected than Wonderful Christmastime, but is it bad that I do somewhat prefer Paul's track? Maybe it's just due to how much I've heard this track, but it really doesn't affect me as much as it used to. It's still an amazing song, I get why people choose this song as many's favorites, I've even seen people say this is the only John Lennon song that they like. The song itself is good I guess, but to me it feels like it's always climbing towards something bigger but it doesn't actually reach there and just ends. I prefer Paul McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime over this in my opinion.
