HowI got into Resident Evil !!

A Timeline...😈

Young (Idrk the exact age lol):

My first ever real look into Resident Evil was my dads RE2 (OG) disc copy of the game. I didn't play the game nor did i ever watch mmy dad or anyone else play it due to the fact we don't hook up our old PS (maybe one day...) 

BUT I do remember the cover vividally. And I do remember not being able to tell it was suppsoed to be a zombie on the cover. Like im sorry I know its a classic but ever since I was a kid I assumed the monster on the front cover was a old shadow-y witch lol

2021-2022 

IMy dad bought me and him RE0 on my Nintendo telling me we had to play it together. I was reluctant bc at the time all I wanted to do was play Pokemon but I sat down with a big pout on my face and attempted to play the game w/ my dad. 

We only played for an hour or so, and didn't even get passed the train (for any ppl that played it, we just completed the part where you save Billy/Rebecca from the locked room) and never played it again. 

2023 christmas

my dad bought a PS5 for me and my family. Along with that, he bought himself a copy of RE2R to play bc he enjoyed the original and he was telling us how cool and scary the franchise was. Not too long after, my dad also bought RE3R

Jan-March 2024 (so shortly after christmas)

i decided I wanted to try and play RE2R bc I thought the game was super cool! My attempt failed miserably though, as I didn't even get passed the convience store before I through my controller at my dad in a panic and swore to never touch the game again as it was too scary.

I was a bit disappointed though, so I told myself that I might give it another shot in a couple of years when I was older and my fear tolerance was hopefully better

Late April-May 2024

My friend at school mentioned she was playing RE2R. She was describing as situation in the 'unnamed game' when I blurted out "Is that RE2!? my dads playing that!"

Now one thing you should know abt me is that I am very strategic when it comes to certain social interactions. In the past I would pin-point someone I wanted to talk to and would do things like wearing certain outfits that I knew would get their attention or look to see if they had any interests that I could talk to and relate to.

So when my friend, who I was hoping to get closer too brought up RE2R, coupled with the fact I felt an urge to play it myself, I decided to give the game another shot.

I chose to play as Leon, since my dad was playing as Claire. 

My dad noticed me playing and decided to watch me play Leon's campaign and 'play together' like we did when we first attempted RE0 in 2021/2022

I was lucky to have my dad there bc if there was certain points I got too scared to do something "Ex: the 'jailbreak' scene) I would pass the controller to my dad and let him complete it for me.

May 2024 - Present

During my Leon playthrough, I also went back to RE0 and completed it on my own! I have now currently played 7 RE games and I own 9 (soon to be 10 :D)

And me and my dad liked the two-person campaigns! We would always pick who we wanted to be.

For RE2 and Re3R (yes ik Re3R is not two campaigns, we thught it was at the time tho lol) my dad picked and he picked Claire and Jill do so I got Leon and (would've got) Carlos

and I picked Re1 so I played as Jill and my dad played as Chris!

Also me getting into Resident Evil only boosted my friends love for the franchise and are actually abt to finish RE5 2gether and start RE6 soon once I buy it !! :D

In conclusion, there was many points in my life where I was close  to getting into Resident Evil but it was rlly my friend and dad's appreciation for the games that ended up getting me into them. Before I played Resident Evil, I had never played a video game with a story b4 (besides Pokemon Shield but thats not rlly the same lol) and I never thought I would end up enjoying those types of games as much as I do now

And that's why Resident Evil will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart!!!
