So I recently got back form visiting family in Texas and it was interesting, to put it nicely, to see how some of my crazy family members are doing.
One of my aunts, who I will call Eve, is crazy. Eve use to live with my part of the family about a decade ago. She was not the nicest person and treated every day as it was strict Sunday school, even scolding my sister and I if we didn't read enough of the bibles she picked out for us (nothing against anyone's religious practices if they are not used to harm others in any way). She was also very rude, stole money from my family when she lived with us, and made a bunch of racist remarks towards people from Central and South America. I was glad when she went back to East Texas.
Eve ended up attending a Thanksgiving celebration that another aunt and uncle, who I will call Jen and Jim and are some of the nicest people that I've met, was having outside of Fort Worth. Eve was not in the best of health, having multiple problems with her back and being able to move around in general, but still her crazy self. She said some of the most vile things that I have heard from anyone in a while. Some of the things she said include, but are not limited to: Jen not being a good Christian for not practicing the way Eve practices; that all Mexicans are great at stealing things; all muslims are evil and terrorists; Palestinians are the problem in the holy land; and that one of my Jim's brother was not a good Christian based on the photos she saw while attending Jim's brother's funeral service. The worst thing Eve said by far was telling another family member, who I will call Cici, and her two daughters in private that her grandmother was justified for killing a black man and calling him a racial slur because the Bible said it was okay to do so. Cici and her two daughters are multiracial, as Cici's father is. Another family member had to apologize to them for what Eve said and everyone else called Eve out for what she said. Thankfully Eve didn't spend too much time around the rest of the family afterwards before leaving.
While it is sad to see a family member in poor health and wanting to help them in any way I can, I fortunately do not feel this way about Eve given the type of person she has been throughout her life. I hope I do not have to see her again if I ever find myself back in Texas.
