When I was a kid I either downloaded an app or came across a website (I think it was an app) that claimed to have been a camera but it had live footage inside of people's homes without them knowing, I specifically remember seeing a woman carrying a laundry basket while walking around her house and other times it showed cars and the traffic.
I don't remember what it was called but I hope it was taken down cause something like that is truly scary.

i kinda remember something like this, but as a website. you could see different cameras of various places worldwide, without the consent of the people. if i recall, it used some sort of vulnerability or cameras that were configured as public. really weird.

Sounds like you downloaded something awful that was fronting itself as a Camera app to cover itself.
Never heard of it before, but that is creepy.
Yes it was truly creepy, and its not like the camera was coming from their phones either, it looked like it was setup in their houses

My suspicion is that it was a frontend to some sort of database of hacked or public security cameras.
Those exist on the internet, and not just on the dark web.
How dubious they are depends on the site, sometimes it's as simple as security cameras belonging to businesses and parks that aren't properly security hardened.
