When I listen to music, I just make my own meanings for them.
I don't really care to find out what they mean for anyone else because I don't really live their lives and what resonates with them may not resonate for me.
I'm also just not a big fan of literally anyone. Like I don't do deep dives about any artists, really. I usually know very surface level/basic information about the artists/ bands if I choose to do any at all. Does that make me a fake fan?
(Ofc it's nice to know the meaning of the Song to the artists, but usually I don't know and the lyrics are sometimes straightforward.)
Like.. by me doing that, is that missing the meaning of the art of music? Like to me, music is a form of self expression. The artist is expressing what they're feeling or what they've gone through, and I'm choosing to not look deeper into every single song. I just listen to the lyrics and hear something that I like and apply it to one of my own situations/feelings.
(This is literally just me rambling, so some things may or may not make sense or relate to the main point.)

i think that like any piece of art, the beauty of music is in the eye of the beholder. sure, there's probably some deeper meaning that the artist imposed upon it when they composed the song, but at the end of the day how you interpret a piece of art and apply meaning to it is in service of you and that's all that matters. no one's going to reach into your brain and tell you that your opinions are wrong for valuing a song in a certain way. of course, you may find pushback if you try to talk to others who /do/ take the time to do deeper dives into an artists' intent, but if you aren't concerned with using music as a way to connect with a larger community, that's not as big a deal.
tldr; interpret and enjoy music in your own way, it's art baby!
I really like what you said, it was really well worded. I agree, I just kinda wanted a second opinion because I like hearing what others have to say especially if they have another perspective than I do. Also, I read your prologue on ur acc and I really like what you said.
