Alright guys im gonna try to make this a quickie. I'm writing this with the assumption that you either have read one piece up until this point or you dont care for spoilers.
SPOILERS FOR ONE PIECE ELBAF
For a long time I haven't felt the magic and sense of wonder for a new island that one piece is good at. Not to say the past few arcs aren't amazing in their own right, but a sense of awe has been missing from my experience and hasn't been captured beautifully since skypeia.
What makes Islands special is this masterful sense of scale Oda gives them, ideas so foreign that they seem impossible to the reader and the Straw Hats. However, what sets believability in stone is how the natives explain and interact with these crazy ideas as if they're normal. That sense of grounding the fantastical is perfectly shown by this panel, it's probably going to be one of my most memorable panels of this arc
Just look at their reactions!! You see that and cant help but feel like you're on the ride of something special, while still carrying the whimsy gag like feel of island discovery.I'm unbelievably happy to see Ussop and Luffy's reactions to the land of elbaf, its been 24 YEARS since little garden and the payoff is absolutely worth it with this gorgeous panel for the introduction of the Sun world. (I also just really like pre-metal European architecture) But with a name like the "Astral World" I feel like we need to get there immediately, the way Broggy says that "Sun world is where the suns rays of light can touch us" makes me too curious as to just what Astral World is. Unfortunately I don't think we're seeing it until next summer knowing the chapter release schedule :(.
Most importantly though, the end of this chapter gave me that desperate want of what's to come that I haven't felt in AGES, with the last few arcs we've been on an island with a plan but unfortunately that robs them of their wonder. We're getting dragged into something crazy and giving the narrator such a presence through his words its just a chef's kiss. Especially the use of an random off screen character's quote, very tiny trope but I love when authors do that instead of just having the narrator say it themselves.
This is my first actual post on spacehey so, naturally one of the first things that I would think about is one piece as it steals 50% of my brain space. I don't plan to only post about one piece though, just whatever comes to mind that I need to throw into the ether. So once again I leave you guys with a piece by @Not_Rinrikan on twitter.
