Tarot

Melanie Martinez's album Portals is deeply imbued with references to tarot and witchcraft, intertwining the mystical with the personal. From its cover, where it appears as an ethereal being that is reborn, it evokes the concept of transformation, similar to the Death card in the tarot, which symbolizes new beginnings. The songs are loaded with symbolism, such as "Void," which explores inner darkness and is reminiscent of The Moon, a card that represents the occult and the subconscious. In addition, in songs such as "Light Shower", the connection with ritualistic and spiritual elements is perceived, similar to the light baths used in energy cleansing. The album's visual aesthetic also embraces a magical aura: crystals, mushrooms, and references to rebirth, all elements present in contemporary witchcraft practices. With Portals, Melanie not only offers music, but a mystical journey that invites you to explore the esoteric world and the power of introspection.

Another example from this same album is how Melanie simulates the card of the minor arcanum 10 of Swords (The 10 of Swords symbolizes a painful end, betrayal or collapse, but also marks the end of the worst and the possibility of rebirth) being a nod to her former relationships.
