This is a recipe I came up with in middle school that hasn't yet failed me.
You will need:
- Pasta of your choice (I use bowtie noodles)
- Butter (I'd say a quarter of a stick for a full box of pasta)
- Shredded parmesan cheese (fresh if you can find it)
Optional (but it really does make everything come together nicely):
- Everything bagel seasoning
- Black pepper
RECIPE:
- Prepare your pasta. Add a teaspoon of salt to the water right after you put it on the stove. I forgot what this does, but it's an important step. Bring the water to a boil, then add your pasta (or just throw it into the pot as soon after you add the salt if you're in a hurry). I'm not gonna detail how to boil pasta here, but if you need to know how, it should be written on the back of your pasta box.
- Once the pasta's done boiling, pour the contents of the pot into a colander (strainer) and rinse the pasta with cold water. This will prevent the pasta from getting all gross and mushy.
- Put the rinsed pasta back in the pot, and put the pot back on the stove to keep the pasta warm while you mix in the toppings.
- Add the butter to the pasta. You want it to melt fully and evenly coat the noodles. I recommend cutting the butter into smaller pieces to make it melt faster, or turning the stove to low heat if it needs to be a bit warmer.
- Once the butter's melted, stir in a large amount of parmesan cheese, enough to be noticeably melty. Everybody likes a different amount of cheese in their pasta; I usually add a generous handful. Again, turn up the stove heat a little bit if it needs to be warmer for the cheese to melt.
- Finally, stir in more everything bagel seasoning and pepper than you think you'll need. If you want to use a different seasoning, you can also do that. I recommend chili flakes and Indian curry powder (again, always add more than you need; always account for the volume of pasta, not just the surface area).
- And plate up. You can sprinkle some more shredded parmesan on top if ya fancy. A matching drink is, of course, not required, but if desired I recommend Faygo Cola or a Poppi Cola (seriously, they're both waayyyy better than Coke and Pepsi combined).
