When looking at this video I think it's funny to see the change in times and people's mentality. In 1995 in Sweden punk was starting to get popular again, after coming from the glory days in the late 70's to early 80's, to being more or less dead during the late 80's. Then it died again after the turn of the millenium, to rise a bit around the 2010's, and now I feel like it's dead again.
What I think is weird though is that despite the shitty times of today, where more socially critical voices are needed, near everyone is quiet. Feels like people have given up making their voices heard, and I just wonder why? In times of crisis back in the day, it seemed people couldn't keep their mouths shut, they just had to let everyone know what they were dissatisfied with, and often times they used music as a way to express this (combining something important with having fun).
I don't know if it's because of laziness or pure ignorance but for some reason this century hasn't created near half as many (Swedish) punk bands as the last one did in 10 years, yet we're living in a time that is just as bad, if not worse. It's so strange to me, it makes me sad and to quote a song "I was born too late, to a world that doesn't care".
End of my angry rant (^^)
Of course I know there are still new bands making punk music, but they're very few and I'm afraid they don't make enough noise...
