I finished the second season of Arcane the other day and HOLY SHIT. I loved it so much. It was honestly one of the most beautiful things I had ever watched. The only thing that somewhat comes close is The Midnight Gospel, which is a different kind of beautiful.
This blog entry is going to be more on the things that I liked and things that I noticed. So that being said, MAJOR SPOILER WARNING.
Starting off, one of the biggest things that I liked was the relationship between Isha and Jinx. The dynamic between them is supposed to mirror that of Vi and Powder, but what i really loved about it was the fact that Jinx developed the same sister/ motherly bond with Isha as Vi did with her. The relationship with Vi and Powder leans more towards that of a young mother and child, seeing as they were really young when their mom was killed. In the big moment in Act I Season 1, Powder calls Vi Mom. (People say that she ddn't, but everything in the show is done with a reason and the lipsync and audio show her saying Mom) It is revealed in a flashback moment in season 2, that Vi and Powder's mother would be the one to cut and do their hair. And after her passing, Vi doesn't cut her hair anymore, but Powder does, meaning that someone is doing it, and it would most likely be Vi as she steps in as Powder's mother figure. And after Vi is taken to prison, Powder doesn't cut her hair anymore, even after becoming Jinx, as she doesn't have a mother figure that she feels comfortable with cutting her hair like she did before. And in season 2, Jinx does Isha's hair, just like her mother and pseudo mom, Vi, did for her. This is a big implication that Jinx is filling a mother role for Isha. I love their relationship so much, it absolutely broke my heart when Isha was killed.
Another thing that made my heart melt was in the finale, Jayce touches his forehead to Viktor's, as Viktor comforts Jayce, as he's afraid of the pain of dying. This moment seems to be a connection to the fight they had in season 1, where Viktor comes back from the undercity and Jayce implies that Viktor is different and higher than those in the undercity, even though he was born there and it will always be a part of who he is as a person. This moment of Jayce touching foreheads with Viktor, is a clear act of acceptance and love for Viktor as a whole, going so far as to show his affection for his partner though an undercity custom and tradition. We see people in the undercity touch foreheads all throughout the show, Vander and Silco in their fight, Vi and Powder after the explosion as well as before, Jinx and Silco, Isha and Jinx, Vander as Warwick with Jinx and Vi. It is clearly an important custom in the undercity, a sign of love, affection, appreciation and acknowledgement. So when Jayce provides Viktor with this touch, it's him without words showing that he loves Viktor, that without him, Hextech would have never came to be and they would have never become the pair that they are.
I also really liked the fight between Vi and Jinx in the air ducts, as its very clear that they don't want to really hurt eachother. When Caitlyn looks up to aim at Jinx, the two are fighting like little kids until the last moment were Vi pins Jinx down. They are loosely throwing punches and kicks. I just found this part kind of sweet despite the whole situation.
Another part I liked was the moment after Jinx frees a bunch of people from Stillwater, and they touch her shoulder. Something I noticed is that physical touch is such an important thing in Zaun. And this moment made be realize that no one other that Silco and Isha have touched her with affection since she became Jinx. Seeing how she tences at the first touch, ony to melt as the other Zaunites show their appreceation for her breaking them out. After this moment, I believe even Sevika starts to touch Jinx in a way that shows that she sees her and cares for her in some way.
This is just the start of my little thoughts and rambles on this, as i have family matters I need to attend to at the moment.
