Undyne walked Alphys to her class and continued on, smiling over the small yellow lizard. She wanted to ask her out so badly, but she was nervous Alphys didn’t feel the same way and was just being friendly. Even if they shared milkshakes with two straws and sometimes held hands. It was totally just platonic. In her thoughts, she bumped into a familiar flower. Oh shit. “OW! HEY! WATCH IT FISH BITCH.” He exclaimed and turned around. “Hey, I’m sorry for bumping into you, no need to be vulgar, Flowey. We aren’t in high school anymore, grow up.” She walked past him, over the interaction, but the small flower had other ideas. He jumped forward and tripped her, causing her to fall to the ground, hard. “shit...” Undyne whimpered and tried to sit up but she couldn’t, her arm wouldn’t push her back up. Papyrus was making his way to his next class when he saw the commotion and gasps, he peeked over to see his friend, Undyne, laying on the floor beside Flowey. Her arm was visibly injured. “OHMYGOD!! UNDYNE!!” He ran over and kneeled beside her. “SHOULD I CALL AN AMBULANCE?” She nodded weakly. “WHY HAVEN’T ANY OF YOU HELPED HER OR CALLED AN AMBULANCE? SCRAM!” The other students left the scene as Papyrus yelled at them, no longer interested in the flower vs. fish fight. Flowey left too. “Should I move you?” Papyrus asked and Undyne shook her head. “N-no that… that’ll only make it worse. Thank you… Papyrus.” He could see a small smile on her pained face. Soon the ambulance came and took her away, Papyrus requested to go with her but they wouldn’t take him. Sans was the one with a drivers license so Papyrus ran to his class. The room was basically silent until the tall skeleton burst in. “SANS! SANS I NEED YOU TO DRIVE ME TO THE HOSPITAL, UNDYNE IS THERE!” “Woah, woah, what happened?” Sans asked as the entire class of 40 had eyes on him and his brother. “NO TIME TO EXPLAIN. I’LL EXPLAIN IN THE CAR!” Papyrus didn’t give his brother a choice, he grabbed his arm and pulled him out. Sans chuckled and waved at his professor, who just rolled his eyes. Sans might’ve driven a bit above the speed limit, but he justified it by saying his friend was dying, at least that was how his brother had portrayed it. “So…” Sans started, rolling down his window to let wind through his nonexistent hair. “You gonna tell me what happened or what? You’re makin it seem like Undyne is dy-ing.” He tried to make a pun but Papyrus glared at him. “Really Sans? At a time like this?” He rolled his eyes, but continued. “Flowey tripped her and I think she broke her arm.” “Oh shit…” Sans frowned. “I hope it isn’t broken, I’d hate to see Undyne like that…” They arrived at the hospital and waited in the waiting room for what felt like hours. “Hey bro, I’m gonna go find a bathroom.” To pass the time easier Sans took dabs in the hospital bathroom, then went back to his brother in the waiting room. “Hm... you smell funny Sans.” Papyrus sniffed around his brother with his non-existent nose. “Uh- it’s just, hospital. Smell. I guess.” “No, it smells like our bathroom.” Papyrus pressed on, Sans regretted his decision to get high. “That's odd bro.” Sans let go of the conversation and Papyrus followed. Soon enough they were allowed to see Undyne, who had a big cast on her right arm. “Hey guys…” She said, voice raspier than usual. “Oh Undyne… are you okay?” Papyrus rushed to her side and Sans watched from farther away. “Yeah… but… my arms broken. My- my good arm, too.” It was heartbreaking to see her look so defeated, she never looked defeated. Tears welled up in Papyrus’ eyes and he cried at her side. Then, Sans spoke up, “It was that flower huh?” “Yeah, that fucking asshole couldn’t resist not huring someone for one day.” She sighed. “He's rotten, you should report him.” The visit lasted for half an hour for Sans, who decided to leave Undyne and his brother together to talk about things privately. He felt a little bit like a shadow behind Papyrus whenever they were all together. He sat in his car and cranked the radio, tapping along to the music. He soon closed his eyes, just to rest them, then fell asleep. He woke to a knocking noise, confused he opened his eyes to see Papyrus banging on his window with his fist. He jumped and unlocked the doors. Getting into the car, Papyrus shook his head. “Sans, you fell asleep.” “Um… Undyne won’t be able to play on the football team this year…” He started, “She asked me to fill in for her-” “You didn’t let me finish, it’s POSITIVELY HORRIBLE, BROTHER! I wanted to play alongside Undyne, to compliment her, to work as a team with her. Now I’ll be all alone. Alone at practice, alone at the games… I don’t think I'm ready.” Papyrus was visibly upset, even shaking a little. “You’re definitely ready, Paps… you’re as good as Undyne, I’ve seen you.” “OHMYGOD, I’M GOING TO MAKE UNDYNE SO SO PROUD! WOWIE!” He jumped out of the car, revitalized. Sans smiled, another job well done. He got out of the car and hugged his arms around himself, the cold evening air prickling his… bones. As soon as they got into their dorm, Sans plopped himself directly on the couch, finally getting his TV time. The same time he hit the couch was the moment he realized he didn’t have any food for dinner, or lunch at that- oh no… Sans opened his phone to see missed calls and texts from Alphys. Shit. They had left before lunch and didn’t come back. The only one who would have attended lunch at their table would have been Mettaton. Maybe Napstablook if he was feeling social, but that never happened. No one had told Alphys what happened for hours, she must have been freaking out. Sans felt horrible. He pressed the return call button on his phone and held it to his ear. It rang almost until it reached the voicemail, but at the very last second Alphys picked up. “H-h-hi Sans…” She sounded sad, and stuffy, like she had been crying. “Alphys… I’m so sorry I didn’t call you to tell you but we all weren’t at lunch because Undyne got tripped… and she fell. And broke her arm-” Sans could hear sobbing on the other line and he frowned. “I’m s-” “WHY D-DIDN’T YOU THINK T-TO TELL ME?!?!? ALL DAY I WORRIED AND I WORRIED. NO ONE PICKED UP THE PHONE, NOT YOU, N-NOT PAPYRUS. I COULDN’T FIND ANY OF YOU.” Alphys hung up on Sans. A moment later his phone lit up with a notification from the Undernet. Sans sighed and put the phone down. He looked up to see Papyrus staring at him with a scared expression, phone on in his hand. “We forgot to tell Alphys.” “No shit, Sherlock.” ((AN// the undernet post is a little messed up, if you know how to format it better here, comment pls!! also I know that the usernames I choose for undernet may or may not be accurate to the game, but that's the beauty of fanfic))II
“I guess… not like the dean is going to care about an adult flower picking on an adult fish like it was middle school.”
“But it was on school property.”
“You’ve got a point Sans, I’ll try…”
“You’re telling me? Alright, are we ready to go home?” Papyrus nodded. The majority of the car ride was just the music playing, and Sans trying to keep the setting sun out of his eyes. But as Sans pulled into the student parking lot, his brother turned it down.
“That’s great, right? It’s what you always wante-” Papyrus interrupted his brother after he was interrupted.
“But… but.”
“No buts about it, you’re gonna make her proud.” Those words brought a smile to Papyrus’ face bigger than Sans had seen in a long time.
