so i just came back from the cinema and i let me just say that i do not know ANYTHIN about the wizard of oz, never watched a single movie about, but after the wicked damn might as well!! 40 minutes in the movie i started to write down some points to bring up in here, it was that serious. so lets start!!!
first i gotta say that the first couple of songs? i didnt understand a single WORD!!! im deadly serious. this is mostly a critique to the ukrainian dub, not the movie itself. i honestly got scared like i thought i forgot ukrainian. when glinda started opera singing in that village all i heard was "ooooo, aaaaaa" and thats it, im still lowkey confused what tf happened.
the hat. ih my god. my doomed yuri. glinda was the one who gifted it to elphaba AS a JOKE! AND SHE KEPT IT UNTIL HER VERY "DEATH" OHMAGAD DONT TALK TO MEEEEE
im gonna say it cuz no one will... glinda and elphaba roomate situation is literally EXACTLY like in wednesday LOL i couldnt stop thinking about enid and wednesday. elphaba and wednesday - the gifted student, internally and externally different from other students while glinda and enid - the late bloomer, colorful social butterfly. except enid wasnt a piece of shit /hj...
i got jumpscared so bad bc of that spongebob mf LMAO and the fact that he got friendzoned by glinda is even fricking funnier lololol.
choreography of the film. it was so fucking good lads i was mezmerized by it !111!! "what is this feeling" (homosexuality. the feeling is homosexuality), "dancing through life" and "one short day" sequences gagged me baaaaad it waz. a-ma-zing! everybody understood the assignment thats all i can say.
lightning of the film. unfortunately, it is, in fact, as much ass as it was in the trailer. i wanted MORE COLOUR!!!!! why tf was it so bland??7? and the lightning in "dancing through life"... dont get me started. i loved the choreography, but the light??? holy crap it was bad. that fricking sun light from the windows pissed me the heck off.
the hat dance on that party. holy. fucking. shit. ABSOLUTE CINEMA. easily the best scene in the entire movie, not up to debate!1! when elphaba made her entrance and started dancing. i fucking started crying, even now, just writing and thinking about it makes me tear up, but in the theater i had a full-on breakdown. but what fully broke me is glinda joining her and trying to dance like her oh. my. god. i have zero words to describe what i felt honestly, pure cinema. i also loved how most of the sequence was in complete silence, it made it so raw and real. loved this scene from start to finish, this scene was worth watching this entire movie. also elphaba's dancing reminded me of wednesday- **GUNSHOTS**
that fiyero dude. did i fr just got spoiled bc i googled how to spell his name??? bro. whateva... X( anywayz, he was so annoying GET THE F AWAY FROM MY LESBIANS!111!!! why would elphaba even like him is my question... baby you deserve so much more.
the emerald city. so i already talked how much i loved the choreography of that part, but! i also loved how much glinda did not fit in, just like elphaba in... well, everywhere! and now everything in that city actually in her colors, but not glinda's. gotta love cinematic parallels.
i wrote down "lack of talking animals in the city", which is basically all. after dr dillamond we havent seen a single talking animal, which was depressing as hell.
monkey's transformation was so scary and painful to watch. and seeing after that EVERY monkey got wings dudeee, poor guys.
the wizard's and madam morrible's betrayal. it wasnt really that unpredictable tbh, but still. what i actually predicted is that the wizard was basically a false prophet. "wouldn't it be funny if this dude didn't actually have powers". well! choosing talking animals as scapegoats (haha, get it?) of all things is so stupid and even more ridiculous is that folk believed him. tells a lot about out society...
it's a golden rule that every media HAS to have a catradora reference or at the very least she-ra reference. and in wicked it's elphaba convincing glinda to come with her, i literally had war flashbacks. the moment elphaba asked i knew it was joever, it never goes well. tho, ill have to say, i was surprised they separated on good terms without the feeling of betrayal! like glinda saying "as long as you are happy" (or something like that, idk what it was in og) made me rip my hair out WHAT DO YOU MEANNNNNNNN. doomed yuri... save me doomed yuri...
and at last, a moment to appreciate elphaba's flying scene, it was really badass and satisfying, loved it.
im excited for the second part !!! no one will convince me that glinda actually killed elphaba, that has to be a trick or smth, like after a history like THAT? nuh uh, no way guys. overall, this movie's hype is more that justified, it was GOOD idc. my only major complain is the lack of color and lightning, for which director jon chu has such a shitty excuse LOLOL:
like what?!?!?! LMAO elphaba is GREEN i think you shouldnt try to make oz feel like real place... bc it fricking isnt? look at barbie, the scene in which barbie and ken were traveling to real world. it was colorful and fun, did it make the movie less real? NO. it made it more FUN. you are just a pussy. anywayz, fuck this dude, loved the movie, waiting for second part :D
