The Whale (2022)

I watched this movie yesterday morning and, OH MY GOODNESS.

(SPOILERS)

I think this is going up to one of my favourite films of all time. It is one of the most beautifu and raw movies I've seen in a minute. The cinematography is fantastic. the framing and colours picked thoughout add so much to the film in ways that I'm not even sure I can really put into words.

My Favourite aspect of the film is the weather. Thoughout the film, its always raining outside of the main character's, Charlie, house. All the way up until the final scene where he walks towards his daughter, rawing a comparision to the only other time the sky is clear in the movie. That scene is a flashback, where Charlie, his wife, and daughter take a trip to the beach, Charlie walking along the sand. This was such a beautiful part of the movie.

another part of the movie that i really liked was the relationship between Charlie and Liz, two people brought together through love and grief. Charlie had dated Liz's brother, who we later find out killed himself due to relgious guilt, as their father was the preacher of a doomsday 'cult'. The care the two share is deep and true, but you can tell that though they care for one another, they arent the best for eachother. Charlie's grief led to him developing a sort of disordered eating pattern, gainign and extreme amount of weight over the years following his passing. Liz's grief led to her holding Charlie close and doing all that she can to take care of him, because she couldn't save her brother from himself. She later realizes that people cant save other people, when Charlie's health gets even worse over a short period of time, coming to the conclusion that, even though she loves Charlie, she can't help him as he doesnt want to be helped, like her brother.

This was such an emotional part of the movie, and there are a whole bunch more. Honestly, the whoe movie is so deeply emotional that i was sitting in awe the entire

All this to say, its such a great movie and its definitely a solid 5/5 for me.
