America is going through a lack of education crisis convince me otherwise

okay i fear this needs to be talked about, why is it that FULL GROWN adults are just learning things that i learned in middle school? i cant speak for any other country, but here its absolutely incredible the things they say.

for example: my grandma reposted a post on FB essentially saying "the people i once trusted with my life are now people i wouldn't trust knowing where Anne frank was hiding" or something along those lines, and a 60 year old grown man comments "who is Anne frank and who cares" …WHO IS ANNE FRANK? 

another example: AFTER the election, on google trends "what is a tariff" spiked. not knowing what a tariff is, or not knowing what they do is one thing, but why did we decide to do our research after the election?!?!  i simply have come to terms with the fact that we are doomed and there is no coming back from this 

can we please just bring back wanting to do better, and learn from our mistakes, instead of endlessly repeating the same thing (that has never worked) hoping for a different outcome?
