love letter to my friends

to my friends, old and new,

in this past year, no past couple of months even, i’ve made more valuable and priceless friends that i’ve ever had before. they couldn’t have shown up at a better time. i was basically living my life with the bare minimum social interaction. most of that being limited to my partner, work, and family. while i was mostly fine with this arrangement, making new friends has really shown me that i was utterly lonely. now that i know that what i was experiencing was loneliness, i fear i will not be letting go of these connections haha

while i’ve made friends who are wonderful, i’ve lost some friends too. most of those have been by my own choice, but regardless it hurts. i’m glad i had the people i have now who support me despite my inability to make rational decisions.

i value and love my friends, online or in person, so incredibly much. i know that most of them won’t even be able to read this, and that’s okay. i just want the world to know that i have a great group of people around me. there are so many words i could use to describe them, but that would just get boring. if you’re one of my friends, and you’re reading this. know that i love you, and im very proud to call you my friend.

This strikes directly at a part of my soul, because of the similarities between you and me.

I am unable to leave the house often at all, I have no friends outside of my online spaces (except my bandmate, who I see once a week, so it's not a very close or personal friendship). The online friendships I had previously have always felt like there is some level of distance or limit to the connection, because it was always just text on a screen or a voice through headphones, and recently some of them have felt like they were fading.

The friends I've made through our group, is the first time in my entire life where I have felt truly able to be myself, truly able to connect, without any fear. In fact, it's been the opposite of fear. I feel loved.

My anxiety leads me to be deathly afraid of change, and taking chances. Taking the chance on knowing you and the others, may be one of the best decisions I have ever made.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being you.

And considering this is relatively public, I have a message for those who don't know us.

If you ever feel lonely, and have only experienced hurt from others in the past, just know that there are people out there who will cherish you the way you deserve. I was close to giving up before I met the wonderful people I am honoured to call friends today. Don't give up. Find things that you are passionate about, have hobbies, and engage in communities dedicated to those things. Be yourself, talk, take that chance, and the people who will change your life will find you. They found me, and I am thankful every single day.
