Went and saw Pericles! I had negleted to add in my last entry but tuesday was a fieldtrip day. Went down to Navy pier for it.
Since we were going to be out the entire day, it was said that we shouldn't take our bags. I really hate not having a bag with me so I did end up taking one, just not my typical large bag. I brought my small soot sprite bag, grapes in an old rainbow sherbet container at the bottom, pens and drafting pencils in the front pouch, sketchbook in the interior pouch, noise canceling headphones and a water bottle on top of the grape container. Certainly a much smaller load than usual.
I really liked the way the lighting looked, there was some subtle fog and I thought it was so fun. The way it changes how light bounces or whatever. The costumes weren't complicated however they were well done. The actors played mulyiple roles and each kingdom had their own main color. They would layer things atop of the beige/clay colored outfits they had on. The stage itself was also quite interesting, not a typical stage. It was much more level with the seats as well as rectangular. When I say rectangular I mean it was facing to long way.
The cast was pretty diverse too, in age and ethnicity/race. I wasn't expecting it considering the folks putting it on were from the UK. The biggest thing that caught me off gaurd is that there was a super tall old dude, like full white hair and everything. They had him crawling around on the floor in the beginning too, I was so close to losing my shit. What do you mean this man who's my grandmother's age is slinking around on the floor a few feet away from me??? He wasn't bad looking either, had a full beard and a nice hooked type nose.
Aside from that one guy I really liked the hairstyling, this one woman although she didn't have much in speaking lines, had this really cool circle sitaution going on? Like think the olympics logo but just three rings, that was down the center of her head snaking down. I'm not very good at explaing but trust when I say it was super pretty. Then lady who played Pericles's wife had a buncha smaller braids forming two large overlapping ones, it was coming undone a bit at the end which really added to it.
The play itself was nice too, felt it dragged a bit during the reunion scene though. I got a tad frustrating that it stretched on for so long. I also wish the wife stayed dead, I get what they were going for but it felt like bringing her back for the sake of bringing her back. I'd have preferred that it was just Pericles and his daughter Marina. It was already a stretch that they even found eachother again y'know?
That's all I got, it was a long day and I'm in my transport on the way to school. I'm gonna be exhausted come Friday.
