from the river to the sea, palestine will be free.
there will be no "free palestine" until a
one-state solution can be met. a 2-state "solution" is not and should
not be an option. living next to people who colonised palestinian land,
and repeatedly committed genocide on the palestinian population will
only result in more conflict. the united states, uk, germany, france,
canada, and a lot more western countries have blood on their hands for
supplying israel with weapons that are used to martyr innocent women and
children hourly. it is the fault of allied western countries that
israel is allowed to commit such atrocities without any pushback to not
completely cut off any economic ties to the middle east, and, as of
february 13th 2024, 28,340 people have been murdered.
as of october 7th, 2024, 42,000 people have been confirmed to have
been killed as per the gaza health ministry. as of july of 2024, the
lancet estimated that upwards of 182,000 people have been murdered at
the hands of israel. a great evil is being done right in front of the
world's eyes, and all the ordinary people can do is either be
complaisant, or organise, march, protest, fucking anything other than
sit by and watch idly.
this album, through its titles, through its lyrics (see raindrops
cast in lead), through it's statements of "every day a new war crime,
every day a flower bloom.", and "war is coming. don’t give up. pick a
side. hang on." as well as, more importantly, through it's music, does a
good job at capturing the hopelessness of the conflict, and even then,
there IS still a tinge of hope through tracks like "BABYS IN A
THUNDERCLOUD", and "RAINDROPS CAST IN LEAD" by both the musical content,
and the lyrics (only applying to RAINDROPS CAST IN LEAD, as BABYS IN A
THUNDERCLOUD is an instrumental piece).
thematically, a similar album of theirs is "yanqui uxo", very
clearly seen through the liner notes describing the track "09-15-00" as
"ariel sharon surrounded by 1,000 israeli soldiers marching on al-haram
ash-sharif & provoking another intifada"
this is godspeed's greatest post-breakup album.
9/10
