A person on my friend list on Facebook...
"I'm reposting this photo of me and I deleted the previous one I post earlier. I really love how this picture of me came out, and I thought I would have gotten more than just a few likes on it."
* Old picture got - 2 likes
* New picture got - 90+ likes
I'm not picking on this person. I mean honestly, I could easily see a circumstance where person posts a Youtube video, and then deletes and reposts it because it was performing poorly. But I guess my thought is that - is this what we have become as a society on social media? If we don't receive the instant gratification we were expecting, we resort to starting over and reminding people that we are seeking validation because we feel we deserve it?
I can see starting from scratch being used in business when developing a product or service that isn't taking off. But on a personal level when we are just out there being social? That seems more like something a little child would do - stomping their feet and demand everyone pay attention to them. I suppose if social media reactions is what you are seeking, this is one way of achieving it.
Side note, it was a cute photo in general and I believe people likely would have stumbled upon it organically over time. I've even had that happen on some of my photos. Also, I'm not looking at any of the factors of why the original photo didn't gain a lot of traction. Maybe she posted it at a time when many people weren't online or something else. But either way, none of this really matters since I am only focusing on her noticing it not performing well, and reacting to it.
Anyway I have never resorted to the - delete, repost, then ask for likes - method. I guess I just have too much pride and dignity to ever do something like that.
