There's no Japanese on this blog since I don't know how to help Japanese people search, only Americans lol. So if you're American this may be helpful to you!
Also before we start, I BEG of you please do not fall victim to Depop resellers. You should never pay $100+ just to say you have brand. I don't use Mercari JP personally but I've heard people say sometimes people on there will sell brand for decent prices.
Clothing:
#1: Kei Market
This is my all time favorite secondhand store. My best advice is to just wait it out, there are people leaving gyaru a lot or just cleaning out their closet and will sell brand pieces for cheap.
In depth on how to shop from here:
Once you find the piece you want, if there is no bid you can just click on buy it now.
Be sure to click the box above the submit button then click submit! Once the seller notices you have bought the piece they will message you on the website with information about shipping or for your PayPal if it isn't linked to your account. (How to do so below) They will send you an invoice on PayPal and that is how you pay them and get your tracking number!
Once you click that at the very top of your profile will be this:
Bidding:
If there is an option for a bid (sometimes this will be the only option, sometimes there will be a buy now price as well that will be higher than the bid price. The entire goal of bidding is to be able to get the piece for cheaper but if it's in high demand you can lose easily!)
Once you've clicked "place bid" you just type your bid into the box, be sure to check the box then click submit!
(Note!: with bidding it is customary to just bid one dollar higher than the price bidded before you or the original bidding price if there are no bids! For this listing you would bid "$181".)
Once the item has been delivered to you be sure to leave them a review by clicking "leave feedback"! This is what will show once you do:
The other options under rating:
Ratings from others will affect how your profile appears too!
The green number means the amount of positive reviews and the red is for negative reviews. I forget which neutral falls under, I tried to look at some other profiles but people don't usually leave neutral reviews.
#2: Thrifting
That video I linked is helpful but my best advice from someone who's been thrifting her entire life is just look out for colors, textures and prints. That is how I find the cutest stuff. Just pass through the aisles and keep an eye out for a certain thing you're looking for. I'm always looking for pink so anytime I see something pink I immediately pull it out and see if I want it or not. I also enjoy a good animal print so when I see animal print I also look at those. Digging through the racks is usually counterproductive. (The girl in the video says the opposite, but I agree, if you're new to thrifting you should look in depth. But if you've been around the block you can usually just spot what you want.)
Best thrift stores:
♡ Volunteers of America
♡ Ohio Thrift (These are all over central and southern Ohio, if a lot of people from Columbus want a whole master list of the best thrifts I will make one! These stores often get deadstock from a multitude of name brands including Juicy Couture.)
♡ Goodwills are VERY hit or miss. I've been to many Goodwills that had terrible selection but the one near my house right now always has great stuff.
♡ Salvation Army
Now let's move on to non secondhand stores...
3: Forever 21
Forever 21 is also a hit or miss but I've found many gyaru-esque pieces here. This is one of my favorite stores in the mall and I have met other gyarus who found great pieces here!
If you see something you like but it's too expensive/you can't afford it wait a few months and I promise it will be on the clearance racks. F21 usually has HUGE sections for clearance and you can find a ton of cool stuff for cheap. (Some stores even have entire floors just for clearance!) They also have a huge plus size section! The jewelry here has always been my favorite as well, you can find a lot of gyaru-esque jewelry.
4: Charlotte Russe
This is also one of my fav stores at the mall. Their entire store (basically) is $20 and under and they usually have lots of $10 or less racks! They usually have a lot of Bratz, Powerpuff Girls, Sanrio, Barbie and more! They also have a good shoe selection but they're a bit pricier than the clothes.
Makeup & Nails:
5: Beauty Supply Stores
These are locally owned stores that have all kinds of fun stuff. They have all kinds of gyaru must-haves for cheap like makeup, lashes, press-ons, wigs, and hair accessories. Some, like the one I go to, even have clothes, jewelry, loose socks and much more!
6: The Obvious Ones
Ulta, Sephora and my personal favorite Miss A. They have physical stores in malls and also an online store! I have so many favorites in my makeup bag from there and their lashes are great. For Ulta I personally like the Essence brand (the lash princess mascaras are pretty good) and Fenty lip glosses. These are also my favorite bottom lashes.
My list of must-haves:
#7: Kiss Lashes & Nails
This is my favorite pair of lashes! You can find this brand at Walmart and most makeup stores.
