[Stuff I Own] My Sealed Copy of Half-Life 2 for the Xbox

This is my sealed copy of Half-Life 2 for the Original Xbox.

(and Willie)
It's not in perfect condition, but it's still really cool to have.

So, The story behind me getting this is pretty interesting.

It's 2022 (I think. It was a while ago.)

One of my former coworkers was pretty cool and offered me his Xbox and
Gameboy Advance since he never used them and wanted to get rid of them.

Of course, I say yes because I like free stuff,
especially if it's potentially cool free stuff.

Eventually, after a week or two, he brings me this huge box full of various trinkets.
Most notably, the Xbox, a good handful of games to go with it, and a few 3rd party controllers (the weird ones with the fans in them).

The Xbox was broken, though he told me ahead of time so that's fine.
(I ended up fixing it using parts from the Xbox I already had since the one he gave me was 1.6 revision and I trust the capacitors in it more than the other one.)

What really interested me was one game in the box that stood out from the rest.

A sealed copy of Half-Life 2 was just in there.

Now, at that point in my life, I had never played Half-Life 2.

I literally knew nothing about it, or the series as a whole.

In my mind, I just lumped it together with every other generic FPS
due to preconceived notions stemming from my years in Middle School.
So it never once crossed my mind to give the game a shot.

Until then, that is.

To preserve the seal, I end up burning the game to a DVD-R
and playing that way instead.

That's right.
In the year 2022, I experienced Half-Life 2, completely blind, on the Original Xbox.

AND IT WAS AWESOME

(Also I happened to record it.
You can watch me play through a good chunk of it here, and here.
Be warned that there's no commentary and I play REALLY badly.)

After I beat the game, I was kicking myself for not playing it sooner.
I loved every single moment of it, and I now see the value in it.

Me playing Half-Life 2 on Xbox kicked off a marathon of Valve's other games and it was awesome.

Funnily enough, even though it looks and runs like ass, Half-Life 2 on Xbox is always going to be the one I pick up again for a full playthrough.

Number 1, because it means a lot to me as it changed my views on FPS's
and how not all of them are the same, and Number 2, I can appreciate the technical wizardry that had to be used in order to get it to run on the OG Xbox.

Knowing the technical stuff that had to be done to make a game work typically makes me appreciate and enjoy it a lot more.

And that's why this puppy is going to stay sealed.
(It's not even that valuable sealed btw. It's like 60 buck at the most)

Here's some more images for you to see!

Sealed on all sides!

Disc Made in Mexico!

This side has the EA logo on it for some reason...
Did EA distribute the Xbox version of Half-Life 2?

Strange....

Funny how that works out. I love Half-Life 2 specifically because I received a sealed copy of it for free and continued to pirate it anyways instead.
(I own all the games on Steam these days anyways, so Valve did end up getting my money in the long run.)

So yeah!
Thank you for reading my blog!
As a treat, here's a bonus image of Willie tucked into bed.

Until next time!

NO WAY, This is literally so sick!! Free stuff rocks! Valve did actually partner with EA for retail distribution.

Yeah it's pretty awesome!
Good to know it's not some weirdo bootleg thing as well.
