a collection of broadcasted/raw footage of semihistorical moments I like talking abt

this is a collection of moments in broadcast history that I like talking about, in no particular order :D

1. Mr. Rogers Speaks in Front of Congress (May 1, 1969)

god, such an power example of persuasive speaking. for those who don't know, back in the 1960s, republican government officials were trying to cut funding for PBS because they didn't like the content being broadcasted on the channel. I recommend watching this video by Matt Braum if you want a more in-depth explanation: https://youtu.be/I2WyvlygsjI?si=R6gK3yzM2wxA65rC

anyways, this speech from Fred Rodgers, the man behind and face of the PBS show Mr. Rodger's Neighborhood, is what single handedly saved PBS. it's honestly amazing seeing Fred speak so calmly as he slowly persuades Congress little by little.

2.  Flight 1549 Cockpit Audio And Crash Footage (January 15, 2009)

I think whats so fascinating about this video is how calmly Pilot Captain Chesley Sullenberger (known as Captain Sully) speaks to traffic control. Both the engines of his plane are damaged and he has to land the plane in the Hudson River, and the entire time he sounds calm and collected.

3. ABC 33/40 Tornado Outbreak Live Coverage with James Spann and Jason Simpson (April 27, 2011)

I love meteorologists and moments like this is why. James Spann is a legend in the tornado chasing community, having had a long career covering major tornados. Him and Jason Simpson were on air for eight HOURS covering a huge tornado outbreak in Alabama, which had a total of 62 tornadoes.

4. Sylvia Rivera "Y'all Better Quiet Down" Speech at Gay Pride Rally in NYC (June 24th, 1973)

Such a powerful woman. Sylvia Rivera is one of my many heroes, and I feel like that should be the case of every queer and trans person living in America. we would not have the sliver of human rights that we have today without her and Marsha P. Johnson. I think the sheer anger that she conveys in her speech makes is how its so powerful, its just so intense. this doesn't seem to be the full speech, I think some parts are cut out, but I can't seem to find the full one. a book I have has the full speech in it, its called Great LGBTQ+ Speeches by Tea Uglow.

5. Jon Stewart Slams Congress Over Benefits For 9/11 First Responders (June 11, 2019)

yes, the guy from The Daily Show. the way he absolutely tears into Congress for dragging their feet on giving 9/11 first responders their dued benefits is admirable. this is one of the first videos that honestly got me fascinated by history through broadcasts and media. because something like this, and the videos before are in their own way historical.

hoped you enjoyed my small fit of rambling, I'm very tired

lemme see if you wanna see more of this!! (◍•ᴗ•◍)
