hello!! i've been wanting to make a blog entry relating to music for a bit now, and i thought it would be fun to show some of my favorite albums from my country. hope you enjoy!
1. Corazones by Los Prisioneros
starting off with possibly the most known album on here, Corazones is the fourth studio album released by the emblematic rock band Los Prisioneros, on 1990. straying away from their usual punk-rock style, Corazones is a synthpop record with a heavily sentimental, intimate and sometimes melancholic feeling imprinted on it, and purposely so: a lot of the lyrics on the album were inspired by the affair the vocalist of the band was having with the guitarist's wife, an affair that would put a severe strain on a years-long friendship.
regarded as one of the most important synthpop records in spanish, i would recommend this album if you like bands such as Pet Shop Boys and New Order.
2. SanBernardo by Malcorazón
the first release by the indie rock/shoegaze band Malcorazón, SanBernardo is a dreamy record which sometimes feel like laying down on a warm spring day, with the sun hitting your face, but not quite burning. This is a band which i sadly haven't seen much discussion on, despite how good this release is.
i would recommend this album if you like bands like The Sundays, Slowdive and Alison's Halo.
3. Peces by Lucybell
inspired by bands such as The Cure, Cocteau Twins and Joy Division, mixed with the noisy shoegaze sound of My Bloody Valentine, Peces is the debut album by Lucybell; the layers and hazy, yet warm melodies and songwriting make this, in my opinion, one of the best releases the chilean music scene in the 90's had to offer.
4. Los Jaivas by Los Jaivas
an album made by who is probably the best chilean band of all times, Los Jaivas is a prog/psychedelic rock record which i honestly lack the words to properly describe its sheer beauty. rich in complex, yet gorgeous melodies and instrumentation, i wish this band in general was more discussed when talking about prog rock bands, as it's genuinely one of the best ones ever; i struggled to pick out a single album, but i think this one is my favorite by them.
5. Pongo en Tus Manos Abiertas... by Victor Jara
an album made by one of the most influential artists the country had, and one of the most important exhibitors of the nueva canción chilena (new Chilean song) movement, the album showcases the sheer strength of Jara's voice and songwriting- through lyrics that discuss and protest the horrifying injustices seen at that point by the hands of those at power -such as the massacre of 90 poor families by the hands of cops, or the labor exploitation of the working class by rich landowners and foreign corporations-. i encourage more people to learn about Victor Jara's story, and, as much as it is an incredibly sad one, his artistry and him as a person continue to inspire thousands to this day.
writing this was quite fun!! i might make a second part someday, sharing music with others is one of the things i love the most. :)

Corazones is a literal masterpiece. Tren al Sur and Estrechestez de Corazon are my all time favorite songs.

Hey there! I just finished listening to Corazones and I enjoyed it very very much. I particularly liked Amiga Mía and Cuentame Una Historia Original.
I’m gonna check the other albums out tomorrow since it’s too late for me to start listening to another, but I can assure you that I now fully trust your tastes

Hey Ronnie, back here again to tell you I finally listened to all these albums and I can confidently say Lios Jaivas is my favorite (although I really enjoyed Corazones and Peces as well). Didn’t know any Chilean prog artists so I’m definitely gonna check out their other stuff.
Also, I recently have been going through my old spacehey account’s friend list and noticed we were friends on there too! Such a great coincidence we got to be friends again
