was messaging someone and it had me thinking about a question that a lot of people are suuuuper divided about. books vs movies?
i will preface this by saying that i had very little tv experience as a child, and by extension very little movie experience. i was also an avid book reader, hiding harry potter behind my math workbook and writing my own stories during nap time.
so, obviously, if someone asks id always say that i prefer books, no further explanation needed. but, my real answer, is it depends. which, a lot of things can be answered with that, more than you'd think. very few things are black and white, and often our answers reflect that.
if i have the time and energy to sit outside with a book, or have independent reading time in class? obviously the book! i adore the vivid imagery and creative liberty that you wouldn't get from a movie. you get so much more of the show-don't-tell in a book.
but, i also have had vision problems since i was little. i got told i would be nearly blind by the time i hit high school, and had to wear an eyepatch throughout fifth grade. i get headaches just by existing most of the time, and with my taste leaning towards classic literature, you can understand the difficulty. im currently reading hannibal, which has very small text and complex language (not a complaint, i adore thomas harris's word choices) and as such, i can only read for about 20 minutes at a time. so, you'll here see the appeal of movies. they're doing the imagining and reading for you, and all you have to do is sit back and watch. they're less strain on the eyes (depending, the hannibal title screen blinds you) and the volume can be turned down depending on a headache.
so, frankly, i couldn't really choose between the two. i love books more, but i also know that movies or more accessibly to not just me, but plenty of others, and i wouldn't discredit them by saying they're pointless.
but, feel free to let me know what you think!! i just kinda wanted to yap but if anyone drifts upon this, id love to hear what your opinion is! :3
