Suburbia sprawls and the city spreads

Clouds of smog above our heads

Streets either barren or filled with brawls 

Materialism present even past the malls

Rain sputtering on the plain

Is life a game?

Upstanders judged silently and mocked 

Though others seem shocked

That their kids would still choose to do the same

Education stripped from those

Who hadn’t even a chance to grow 

Brawls breaking at the schoolyard fence

As teachers struggle to count their pence 

Learning never seemed so lame

Is life a game?

Parents watch as their children return 

Scorned and scared their eyes do burn

Yet something in their eyes

Wishes not to dispise

The saddening life they were given

To let it bloom not to be ridden-

Of happiness and love

Such ideas will fly like a dove

The next generation will understand 

That their future sits in their hand 

To care for the environment and each other 

To know love is never a bother

So they will proudly say

“No, life is not a game.”
