warning: there are some spoilers for tnmn campaign mode and a buttload of headcanons in here...hyperfixation hell my apologies
there are so many little details in this game i love it sm...references to other media would be the most obvious one but i like the little details in character interactions both with you and with each other (kind of?)
one thing that someone pointed out to me about the standard (arcade + campaign) modes of gameplay is that if you call an apartment where someone has a roommate or spouse and theyre not at home the person in the apartment will ask "is he/she back?". however, anastacha does not ask if her mother is back when you call to inquire about nacha, and mia does not ask if afton is back when you inquire about her (what makes this second one more interesting is the fact that he does ask if she is back when you call asking about her). its probably an oversight or something because this game does have its share of glitches and things but i do think that if it was deliberate it would make for an interesting piece of lore.
another thing about mia and afton that ive heard (and have yet to fact check so im not sure if its true) is that you can get the conspiracy theory campaign ending (where afton reveals he is with the ddd before having an agent kill you off) by only calling the ddd on her as well as just on afton- i wonder, if true, if that hints that maybe she is aware of and/or covering up for the morally gray/potentially evil side of the ddd that both gameplay and the game dev seem to be hinting towards?
i know people draw a lot of art of francis and anastacha (oftentimes with nacha as well) as a happy family perfect relationship etc but i have to wonder if its likely that he actually even knows that she exists in canon. the developer has essentially confirmed that anastacha is a result of a "screwing the milkman joke" between francis and nacha, but has also said that no relationship is canon between them other than nacha being her mother and francis being her father. one thing i do dislike about this game is the fact that there's no/next to no interaction between the neighbours in the apartment building/astral circle, but it does also leave nice blank slates to go wild with headcanons with.
it can be noted that in nightmare mode, where the roles/personalities/traits of characters are reversed, quachil (who is anastacha) lives with yog (who is francis) instead of ishtar (who is nacha). i dont think any of the relations of characters from arcade mode are carried onto nightmare mode but to me they are: i.e. lilith and anazareth are twins to me like selenne and elenois are even if its not canon. HOWEVER. i do not think that yog, ishtar and quachil are family because theres no way a vampire and whatever creature ishtar is (creature said lovingly) reproduced to form a biblically accurate angel. perhaps quachil and yog have a father-daughter relationship in the same way that zeus and athena do in greek mythology (for those who dont know the myth she sprung from his thoughts instead of being born "normally" as she is the goddess of wisdom)- like he didnt father her but also he did yk? i would love to see what the creator of the game thinks that/says that their dynamic may be.
tbc....
