hype kills

I worry about overhyping my favorite things because while I genuinely believe some of the things I recommend are masterpieces (Everything Everywhere All At Once, Arcane, Invincible, Carol and the End of the World, Scavenger's Reign, etc.) or at least a good time (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, LEGO Monkie Kid, The Captain Underpants Movie, etc.), hype tends to set expectations sky high, turning what could've been a mind-blowing experience into "okay that was pretty good. 7/10." I know this because it's happened to me several times. It's even worse when you find you don't like it at all. "The Sea Beast" and "The Wild Robot," hyped to hell and back on the Internet, are solid 6/10s to me, for example.
