i was thinking about windows 7 and vista a while ago and i really wanted the aesthetic so i pieced together all of this! i wanted to make my computer mine, and it turned out really nicely in the end
it feels really fluid and feels really good to use, compared to the average windows 10 ui, which does still kinda feel fluid but its plagued by so many things that make it feel bloated which i honestly dont like at all, especially the ads and everything bleh
programs used
- retrobar (link) used to get the windows vista-like taskbar
- openshell (link) to get the windows vista-like startmenu, which i grabbed from an attached theme in this
- 8gadgetpack (link) used to get the gadgets used in vista & 7
- rainmeter (link) and droptop (link) to get the macOS style bar at the top, which you can customise and stuff!
- winaero tweaker (link) used to get the classic volume mixer and alot of other stuff like the old windows photo viewer + more!!
i was thinking about switching to arch linux yesterday, but you cant play roblox on it because roblox chose not to natively support it which i think kinda sucks. you can play it on a special program thingy though, but roblox can take it down any time (which they've done in the past) and the developers can just choose to discontinue it at any time aswell
you can't play alot of other games on it aswell but they are slowly building compatibility with it though. its mainly multiplayer and games with anticheat that are affected and that suckz
i hope roblox and alot of other games (mainly on steam) add support for linux eventually, especially when microsoft drops support for windows 10 and forces everyone to move to 11 which will kinda leave everyone in the dark since windows 11 isn't even available for half of the computers that exist in the world

Reminds me of this old laptop I had when I was really young, had tons of fun playing Inkball and Purble Place... wish things weren't so bland now
yeah i agree! windows 8.1 was my first os but i've played purble place recently and its great, haven't heard of inkball though
wish i was into computers when windows 7 was in its prime and the most recent os, that would've been amazing :] 8.1 isnt as bad as people say it is imo but it still kinda sucked with the start menu and everything since it felt so janky. windows vista never really had a prime but i wish i could've been around when that released aswell although most computers couldnt really run it that well because the code sucked and everything was too intensive

use dwmblurglass to get the windows 7 window glass effect back!! it looks so much better
forgot to mention u might need a windows 7/vista theme for it to look accurate but you can download it from deviantart :P

thanks!! since this blog i've downloaded windowblinds instead and its really accurate :]] i might update the blog eventually but dwmblurglass is a really good program to use too!! it kept colliding with stuff though when i used it but i think that was because i had too many programs doing the same thing at the time :p

this is so cool, i've tried to do the same thing but i use windows 11 so ofc its much harder lol
oh yeah :p its still possible though!! i havent used windows 11 in a long time because i prefer windows 10 wayyyy more but you can do it if you try!!

i absolutely love windows 7 design but you have to be aware it is MUCH less safe to virus and hacking attacks, plus most browsers won't update.
just letting you know, still adore the design

not very often :p if it does crash usually i cause them myself but that usually doesnt happen
