Art college

I always felt so attract3d to art in general. I love drawing and animating. And ive been thinking about preparing to go to art college (im still in highschool but i need to prepare a portofolio)
My parents on the other hand keep saying i will starv3 and be homeless if i go to art college. And they dont really want to support me (They want me to go to med school)
What should I do? Follow my dream and become an animator , or just give up and listen to my parents?
