Just back from an unforgettable week in England, packed with family, food, and a quick trip to Comic-Con Junior in Brno to wrap things up. Here’s a look at the highlights!
England: Family Time, Food, and Finds
We arrived late Monday night in Borehamwood, where Sean Parker picked us up, and we headed straight to Sam’s Chicken. Tried their chicken and rice bowl, which was surprisingly good for a late-night option—and it’s apparently the only place open on a Monday night in Borehamwood!
Tuesday started with an all-you-can-eat breakfast at Toby Carvery on Studio Way, complete with unlimited Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Strange breakfast option, but no complaints! Later that day, I headed to Watford and scored an amazing find at Cash Converters: an Xbox One with Kinect for just £60, plus a wireless mic for £1 and a stack of karaoke games.
That night, we had dinner at the Dragon Garden Buffet in Borehamwood, hands-down one of the best Chinese spots I’ve tried in Europe. Left absolutely stuffed but more than satisfied with the selection.
Wednesday started with the essential Greggs stop (can’t miss those sausage rolls), then we celebrated Ali Pali’s birthday, and that evening, I enjoyed a perfectly cooked steak dinner with friends in London. Great food, great company—a highlight of the trip for sure.
Thursday was all about the geek stops. I spent the day at Forbidden Planet, then visited the Doctor Who Shop and Museum, which was a total nostalgia trip. We wrapped up Halloween by going trick-or-treating with the whole family—my wife, kids, sister, nieces, and nephews. It was the perfect way to end the day.
Friday was our last day, so we spent the morning filling our cases with British snacks and essentials to bring back to Brno. Little did we know we were in for a long night.
The Ryanair Saga
Our plan was to fly back to Brno on Friday night and be in bed by 9:30 PM, well-rested for Comic-Con the next morning. But Ryanair had other plans. Despite reports showing clear skies over Brno, they claimed “weather” issues and diverted us to Prague. Instead of organizing transport from a Prague-based agency, they sent a coach from Brno. So, the bus had to drive across the country to pick us up, then drive all the way back. By the time we finally got to our beds, it was close to 6 AM on Saturday—no way we were making it to Comic-Con after that.
Comic-Con Junior 2024 in Brno
Even though Saturday was a no-go, we managed to make it to Comic-Con Junior on Sunday. The day was packed with panels, cosplayers, and amazing displays. We caught a fantastic Q&A with John de Lancie, who had the crowd laughing with his sharp wit, especially when asked what he’d do with Q’s powers. Then, Joe Flanigan from Stargate: Atlantis and Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter) shared hilarious behind-the-scenes stories, adding to the day’s highlights. We captured a ton of footage for CKDSRadio’s 8KFlikz project, so fans will get to experience the best moments soon.
Looking Back
This trip had it all: family time, incredible food, rare finds, and a bit of Comic-Con excitement. From late-night bites to a challenging journey back to Brno, every part made for unforgettable memories. I’m looking forward to sharing all the best moments on 8KFlikz—stay tuned for some highlights!
Until next time, here’s to family, fandoms, and unexpected adventures.
