Don't get me wrong, I love going to school but what I don't love is how the system is set up. I cannot stand how school systems raises its students. They're taught in a way that doesn't promote creative thinking and individuality. The only people who are to blame are society as a whole because it is set up in such a way that often denies creatives and destroys any concept of having your own identity.
One of the most natural instincts is to create some form of art. Being creative and expressing this creativity is vital to developing mentally and allowing yourself to be who you are. Going to a building with bright fluorescent lights and being made to take notes and compete academically against others is damaging. Yes, there are creative outlets within school but not nearly enough to successfully allow creative adolescents to flourish.
There are those students who are so drawn to being creative that the school system doesn't stop them from accomplishing their dreams. But think about how many Mozarts, Anna Pavlovas, and Salvador Dalis are putting all of their passion that could be used for creating into studying for state tests and the PSATs? If students are never being encouraged to use their creativity then they may never know that they have so much unused potential. Waisted potential is one of the worst things to happen to a person. The most amazing things have gone undone just because the right people weren't inspired.
