if you don't know, overconsumption is basically in the name, buying a huge amount of things that you don't really need/don't need THAT much of. Think of Shein hauls and what not (Shein is a pretty bad company as well, they partake in child labor and so do a lot of those websites that have really REALLY low prices. I can make a list in another post if you'd like) where people just buy a hugeee amount of items that they'd not really need.
now there's nothing inherently wrong with clothing hauls. when I go thrifting , I don't just buy one shirt, I buy multiple. the problem comes from buying the same shirt like 5 times or the same bag. u don't need the same bag x4. and from buying something you'll just end up throwing away. I do urge people to just sell their clothes instead of selling them or giving them away. anyways here are some tips!!
avoiding overconsumption
1. go to thrift stores and donate ur clothes to thrift stores. that way the cycle continues and clothes can be worn as much as possible before having to be thrown away
2. get 1 or 2 bags. there's nothing wrong with buying a lot of bags (as long as you plan on using them) but if you really don't think u need it, don't get it! it can be hard when were constantly influenced to buy, buy, buy. but if u feel like u really don't need it, don't get it!
3. buy some stuff from dollar stores. in Canada/ US (at least from personal experience) dollar stores sell mittens, beanies, and makeup (if u are sensitive to types of makeup, def don't do this) and many more products. not everything has to be designer or fancy!
4. skincare is important, but not all products are necessary or even help. pls do research on things that u absolutely need from skincare instead of seeing a product advertisment and immediately buying it. research-able and having a certain intent can help reduce how much your buying
