I'm tired of Goth Posers

I'm so sick and tired of people thinking that they know what goth is when in reality they're just a bunch of posers. There are so many people out there who label themselves as "goth" to be popular or trendy and then just move on from it when TikTok or Instagram decide that it's not cool anymore. Being what you think is goth just for the appeal of fitting into what's trendy goes completely against the fundamentals of any alternative subculture and it's so annoying. Just because you dress gothic doesn't mean you're a goth.

So many people when they think goth the only thing that comes to mind is just people wearing black and having big eyeliner when that's straight up just not true. The origins of goth are completely forgotten by a large majority of this generation who just want to goth. They're entirely forgetting that derives from a style of music and not just a style. People are so quick to call people posers just because they don't dress the part when it's often the other way around. So many people try to dress gothic but really aren't at all. You can dress any way you want but as long as you listen to bands like Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, or even Clan of Xymox or any music that can actually be considered goth then you're a goth.

I am a firm believer that music can heavily affect the way you dress and your style but that isn't always the case. A lot of the time people start dressing like their music taste because naturally, you'll start to like the same things that others in your music community enjoy and a big part of that is fashion. But in most cases, style and music taste go hand in hand but that doesn't mean that they're entirely dependent on each other. People often also forget that within the Gothic style, there are different styles. Just because someone isn't trad doesn't mean they don't dress goth. A huge part of the gothic subculture is the different styles like Romantic, Nu, Pastel, Victorian, Cyber, and even Vampire. 

Idk I think I'm just getting tired of people calling others posers when in reality they have no idea what they're talking about.
