what da heck this album hallowed me out like she personally took an ice cream scoop to my stomach
listen to this album START to FINISH if you can and then once you finish it do it again and THEN listen to Life as a Spider and Letter to God on repeat until you feel like a shell of a human.
The Life of a Spider is probably my favorite song off the album, just cause I relate to that one the most but that may change the more I listen to the album. I mean the piano immediately sounds so depressing, and then she just starts immediately with sad lyrics right off the bat like shes kicking you in the gut. and it stays consistent with the same piano and her voice carrys the song, creating most of the emotion and all of the dynamics come from her voice. Like when she starts to scream (sort of?) at one point is absolutely heartbreaking and beautiful. Its about being small and somehow scary and it almost made me feel bad for spiders. as someone with severe arachnophobia how dare she make me sympathize with spiders.
Another thing i love is that it sort of sounds like she is singing inside of a bathroom like the scene she paints at the beginning of the song. IDK its just incredible, this song proves that sometimes less is more, and I love the lyrics, like, no notes truly.
Letter to God is also super gut wrenching, I mean its about wishing you were worse just to feel anything at all. its pretty sad i dont actually even think I have the right words to paraphrase just listen.
and then theres Ego which is just catchy and i like that too.
I think this album really showcases her range, and her artistry, and it seems like she really put a peice of herself in this album, it feels like she got total creative freedom. Its MY album of the year, IMO it should win the grammy even though sadly it probs wont. album of the year and i see a lot of people saying its the best album of her career so if thats true thats amazing too.
love her love this album
