Finding Friends Abroad

I am going to Wales in January to study abroad for a semester! I will not know anyone there when I arrive so I wanted to see about finding friends online who live there before I go! Maybe even a penpal! 

I've never tried to find friends from a specific location (especially abroad) before so I have no idea how/where to start. 

Any tips??? :P
