Spacehey users have the EQ of a toddler when it comes to disagreement.

A lot of the people on this site have the emotional maturity of a 5 year old, im not sure if this is because you spend all your time online and forget people aren’t character AI bots, but it’s getting ridiculous.

Let me get this out of the way before anyone accuses me of something; It’s fine to have disagreements over things. You can voice them without acting like a toddler.

For context, I made a blog about how I don’t personally think “trend hopping” or extreme forms of fast fashion employed by shops like shein or temu have a place in alternative culture. Looking back, I think I could have worded some parts with more clarity, but it’s still up because it gained traction. As you’d expect, a majority of people agreed with me, and yes, there was disagreement! You can find comments on the post either only partially agreeing with me, and as far as I can remember, there’s only one comment disagreeing with me. It’s in Polish, so you’ll have to use a translator, but I responded to the comment clarifying my stance and thanking them.

HOWEVER the amount of comments I had to delete because they were WISHING ME HARM is absurd. One commenter called me a “DISGUSTING RETARD” (i am autistic,)who needed to be “DISCARDED” because I made grammar mistakes. One told me that if I cared so much I should “LIVE IN A LABOR CAMP.” That’s not even scratching the surface.

I don’t know what chronic internet usage has done to your minds to think that this is normal human behavior, but there’s a reason you sat alone at the middle school lunch table.
As Mike Tyson once said, “Social media made y'all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it.”

i agree with a lot of the users here that the internet has become meaner and meaner, and i think this is a tad a result of the pandemic. people were forced to be absorbed in the internet and you can see a lot of the toxic culture circulating around now originated around 2020, tiktok took off for instance. everyone got closed off from the world and forgot how to behave lol

id like to add many teenagers are growing up in a world completely changed by covid, and the real world is getting more scary by the day, so i dont entirely blame them for being toxic when even adults feel overwhelmed by reality currently. i think we all just need to remember to make each others days better, its the least we can do

Report Comment

i dont think anybody was "forced" to be absorbed in the internet, it was a choice. like, you could literally still go outside for some fresh air. spend time with friends at the park or whatever. go for a walk? no, the internet was just right there and more convenient. so people made the choice to become chronically online

by ♡ jovi 🐹; ; Report

and not even just going outside and touching grass (joke) but like. read a book. watch a movie. journal. do art. pick up a new hobby. learn something new. start a new project. theres sooo much to do if you ARE stuck inside that doesnt involve the internet but sadly, people these days are sooo chronically and even terminally online! sad!

by ♡ jovi 🐹; ; Report

im sorry but if you really think everyone would spend years isolated and in fear of physical social interaction and wouldnt resort to constant internet use to still be social, i dont know what to tell you. humans like being social, we like talking to each other, social events didnt feel safe for many people during quarantine. early teens in 2020 are now currently adults, you dont just move on from that, you dont just move on psychologically from a virus that killed everyone around you and you didnt want to join them.

by ☆rion; ; Report

nobody HAD to become chronically online though dude you ok?? like i get it people still wanted social interaction (i did too) but like? to become CHRONICALLY online about it? NOBODY had to do that... i understand what you mean but we all have control over how much we use the internet vs finding other hobbies man. it isnt that deep, theres no need for you to get defensive about it

by ♡ jovi 🐹; ; Report

case in point: i still had hobbies during the pandemic that had nothing to do with the internet and i was happier for it. social media ultimately just adds more and more stress the more people use it. i missed being able to go out and do things with people, of course!! that doesnt mean i had to bury myself in twitter and all that bs to feel something

by ♡ jovi 🐹; ; Report

i didnt intend to come off defensive, but lets just agree to disagree here. this thread doesnt need to fester an argument

by ☆rion; ; Report

ohh ok i misread your tone, sorry. but yeah, im not intending to argue, just discuss, but if you wanna leave it here thats ok!!

i don't think its Spacehey alone with this culture lately. people in general are just becoming ruder. or at least this generation. its honestly baffling to me how people can be so openly heinous and still be supported, also very disappointing. like come on guys. just be nice jeez..

that part fr, it's not hard to be genuinely nice, they just want to be awful in the worst manner for whatever excuse they wanna give

You're so real for this. I've noticed it more irl AND online.

I don't they said that to you solely because they disagreed with you, but because they are hateful towards your existence. I believe they would still say that to you even if you didn't say nothing important or incorrect.

I think this happens because there is a lot of underage americans in here, and we could divide this two groups into: a) LGBTQ+ mentally ill teenagers that want to escape the mainstream media where they're openly hated on and frequently questioned; and b) incel teenagers who are often called out for being extremely hateful towards everyone that want a space where they can be unpurposefuly hateful towards everyone. Both are running away from the mainstream so they can express themselves: one wants to be able to express themselves, the other wants to express their hate.

Report Comment

I don't know if my describing of american incel teenagers was comprehensible. Correction: incel teenagers (mostly boys) who are often criticised for being extremely hateful towards everyone and therefore want a space where they can be unreasonably hateful towards everyone.

That's so gross. I can't even imagine what goes through the minds of people like that. They aren't getting anywhere in life with that level of maturity.

I believe this goes for all corners of the Internet and should be talked about more! Today I saw a TikTok on mouthwaahing. The og poster had captions saying "the way I'd actually let the make the crew let me die if I was curly cs wdym he was beautiful and then turned into THIS ECT.." I responded my opinion saying j think they should handle their wording more carefully esp with burn victims (for context he had no skin hair or anything). People responded with their disagreements and I did in time. What I was expecting was a debate from a fandom around a MATURE game. I wake up the next day and someone told me to commit?? I have been diagnosed with depression for years now and am taking medicine just so you have an understanding of how disrespectful that is. It proved to me that people didn't actually care about what they were saying. They just wanted to get away with saying rude things even if someone eventually calls them out on it. Internet culture has such toxic history and issues it's genuinely insane.

Agreed! Ppl now longer understand that IRL rules and social etiquette also apply online. The internet isn't some sort of different dimension, you can still face consequences for doing/saying stupid and gross shit, even "as a joke". Anonymity has destroyed empathy.

i really think anonymity is both a blessing and a curse. Like back when i used to regularly visit chatrooms and stuff like that, people who were "ragebaiting" or "trolling" of any kind wouldnt spout racist/ableist/sexist etc stuff around. the internet has always sucked in one way or another but due to the fact that people are just much more active nowdays i feel its just gotten a million times worse?

also try explaining basic human empathy to the average internet user...

p.s sorry that happened to you stuff like that isnt easy to ignore :'(
